Do these things work or not? I've had 2-3 different USB hubs in my lifetime and none of them have worked as intended. The moment I plugged a second thing in, the hubs stopped working. Anyone have experience with USB hubs that actually perform their function?

maybe try a powered one?

Maybe it's because the peripherals you plug in drain too much current for your PC. Try getting an external powered hub, they come with a wall plug.

Don't get ones that cost $5 and are obviously the cheapest shit possible from China.

the usb ports on a pc don't but out the same amount of power as a mains ac -> usb charger

a lot of usb devices these days will utilize a full 1 or 2 amps and a pc usb port puts out like .5 amps

I'd be surprised if a computer peripheral like a keyboard or mouse is drawing lots of power like that, but I have confidence a cell phone charger would bog down your hub like you're describing

They work fine if you're not brain damaged.

Also nice trips.

This is what happens when you draw more power than the hub can provide. Plugging in a USB drive without a power adapter can do this. I'm sure other things will but I haven't encountered any. USB 3.0 improved on this and can provide much more power, but you can still pull more power than the port can provide so if you know you need to use a lot of high powered USB devices, then get a powered hub.
