You Pajeets are pathetic, all Intel had to do was lower its price.

Nobody said that, shit like this takes time and intel still has a chance to recover with coffee lake.

>>people think AMD isn't a couple years away from bankruptcy
Zen turned out to be a huge success and the most important people (ie OEMs) are going to suck AMD's cock dry until intel has something to compete with ryzen.

So at worst AMD won't go bankrupt.

Probably not as evidenced by their drip feed and sub-stepping of CPU gens due to lack of competition. Why would they release their best product when they can milk people for small upgrades?

They've just been waiting for AMD to make their move. They'll respond by lowering prices as necessary and releasing product marginally better than AMD a premium price and the cycle will continue.
>>
>>59056670
>They'll respond by lowering prices as necessary
You realize this will makr them lose massive amounts of consumer trust, right?

doubt it, coffee lake is most likely going to be another 5% IPC improvement.
>>
>>59056717
>You realize this will makr them lose massive amounts of consumer trust, right?

Nah, all they would need to do is offer more frequent sales and bundles.

>doubt it, coffee lake is most likely going to be another 5% IPC improvement.

And really, that's probably all they would need. They're not going to fully blow their load, it's not profitable to do so and that's the whole point.
>>

The smart way to compete in the lower price bracket that amd seems to be smashing would be to offer retailers rebates on the condition that Intel's chips are sold cheaper/on sale

However while consumers aren't perfectly intelligent they will still ask the question "why were Intel CPUs so expensive/why are they cheap now?"

The only conclusion is because there's better competition now, which just exposes their price gouging of a captive market

People will lose faith if Intel drop their prices suddenly

It would be interesting to know what the average buyer of a CPU represents to them, most large retailers look at lifetime consumer spending when they assess how to manage their brand image

The i5's are already showing their irrelevancy because they do more than just run a single game, like me. my 8350 is curb stomping their i5's when it comes to multiple tasks, and as somebody who uses multiple monitors and is usually doing more than one thing, that was the point of buying it. Their CPU's are older than mine, but if they wanna game with me they have to lower their settings in game because of skype, and maybe running their own music. my $200 8350 from release day (which was discounted because Fry's electronics was doing a deal with the CPU and motherboard) is still doing well, but I want something more myself, and holding onto the CPU that hasn't given me a single issue this long means I've saved far more money for an upgrade than my friends have.

WRONG. I was able to get my A10 to 4.2 GHz (albeit at 1.4v) and temps stayed at 60C. I could probably push my A10 to 4.6GHz with this stock cooler but I like the whisper quiet performance of 3.8GHz on it.

And AMD processors still have the advantage because AMD includes all instruction set extensions on the processors while Intel strictly limits particular features to specific tiers. You can also mix overclocking with virtualization

doom is not a good bench for CPU dependence

try the witcher 3 in novigrad, battlefield 1, or forza horizon 3

you'll see roughly 30-40% IPC improvement going from sandy bridge to skylake
>>
>>59057453
>The minute you try to overclock, you will go with a better cooler.

That's only cause Intel uses cheap TIM, so the heat transfer between the IHS and the die is so bad that you need extreme cooling to keep the chip at low temps. The extreme line chips (that used soldered IHS) get better temps with a stock cooler than a 7700k with a 212 evo.

If you delid and apply liquid metal TIM, you can get way lower temps. My 3570k maxes at 60C that way with a 212 evo at 4ghz.
>>
>>59057592
We all knew that the moment we looked at the pic and saw results from ebay. We're just here to shitpost and roll for dubs while arguing over the better topic of stock processor cooling.
>>
>>59056741
you're an idiot.

it is in every IC designer's best interest to get every possible ounce of performance out of the silicon RIGHT NOW because more performance in the same TDP means you can put your chip in an ever-smaller device with more battery power. Forget about competing with AMD, Intel is selling chips now by putting them in laptops and tablets and saying "check it out, the battery lasts an entire day." The more hours they can tack on to that battery life, the more chips they're going to sell. Desktop is not a major revenue stream and the fact that you think Intel is basing their marketing strategy on desktop shows that you're completely out of touch. The only reason AMD or Intel will ever maintain their desktop lines is desktop users happen to want more or less the same thing as people running servers want. And again, Intel can sell more chips to datacenters if they can increase performance while maintaining or lowering power usage.

Intel, AMD, Nvidia, none of them will ever sit on an IC design because that's not how the IC marketplace works and it's never worked like that.
>>

What if Im a consolefag that wants to move to pc and only play at 60fps at 1080p?

would that leaves enough processing power to handle some of the stuff that would have been multithreaded?

i recently got an i5 7600k that im likely going to pair with a GTX1070 (should be more relevant over time than a 1060), because AMD took their sweet ass time, but i dont think i even need an i7 or ryzen for gaming.
>>
>>59057592

>>
>>59053707
Is there any reason to get the 7700k over the 6700k?

Seeing as that I can save 50 bucks...
>>
>>59057973
yes, i pointed out the three major markets that Intel serves; mobile, desktop, and server. My first point was that the desktop is largely irrelevant to Intel these days. My followup point was that IC designers have never held back designs while they wait to see what the competition has. The only rumored response we've heard about from the Intel camp to Ryzen is some slightly higher clocked SKUs. That's it. Not a new product, but more segmentation to give consumers more options, but not necessarily better ones.
