What do you look for in a tv, /g/? I bought a fairly cheap 4K/HDR sony thing and I feel like that should be fine. Do you guys even care about televisions?

Didn't have much choice these days to be honest.
>>
>>59050660
just a few years ago you could get a dumb tv, that not the care now

I predict cocaine and found in a ditch within 10 years.

Cheap for those features is what I meant. Have been wanting a new tv forever so I saved up and bought one and buying without 4K/HDR now seemed like a stupid idea.
>>

I find the opposite. 99% of what I have is 1080p sources. I would degrade quality with upscaling.
I still think 1080p IPS is the best option for me.

You can still buy dumb TVs, the problem is that the ones with the premium panels are all smart TVs.

Also, you could just not connect it to the internet.

Depends on the upscale engine / algorithm. Something good with actual hardware upscaling will benefit 1080 and 720p content.

But again it depends on your screensize and viewing distance to determine your perceived sharpness.

If you're sitting 4-5ft away from a 50+in TV you're going to see pixels from space even on a 4k tv with 4k content (or 1080 content on a 1080 screen for that matter)

Only on utterly shit TN panels maybe. A good IPS panel for example can easily beat 32K monitors of the same technology because simply there is no scaling.
No scaling at all = always better quality by definition on the same technology of monitor.

I was thinking in one of those future proofing kind of ways because I don't want to buy a tv for the next 10 years or so.

I'm still using a 1080i 34XBR960 CRT I bought for $150 in 2012. LCD tech sucked shit until recently. I would have bought a used Pioneer Kuro plasma as a replacement, but OLED is interesting and the picture is comparable to plasma and CRT. Might get an LG 4K OLED once they're sub $2k.
