1) Standing all day is bad for you.
Doing ANY sustained stance for more than 3 hours is bad for you. Doing it for 2 is being on the safe sound.

2) Standing is more conducive to a shrinking spine.
People that sit horribly on seats are not the majority.
There are plenty of people with poor standing postures and people in jobs that lean over regularly.

Also is there any other way? Standing to use the PC sounds like hell. I can't focus like that. I assume lying down isn't better? What if you use your PC normally but take breaks every 30 minutes or so?

The reasoning for it is because MOVING is specifically a FUNCTION of the body. It is an actual bodily function.
There are facets of your body not cycled properly unless you are moving.
These are mainly linked to the bodies recycling system, the cerebrospinal fluid, and your intestines.
You want to know how to deal with it? Run on the spot for 30 minutes a day. Shit you not. (or run outside, matters not, just run)
30 minutes a day is enough to cycle things properly. You can do it spread out over the day if you prefer.

Another issue is inactivity. People lazing away consuming rather than doing. This leads to their heartbeat being constantly low for long periods, longer than the body evolved with. (3 hours sweet spot as mentioned)
This also leads to decreased function of recycling and cerebrospinal fluid.
Simple solution, just condition yourself to do light exercise when you are consuming.
Tensing your muscles on and off while watching a TV show, or eating, or lecture, that's enough to stave off the ill effects. Tensing muscles on and off is quite a decent exercise. Just don't go overboard in to the burn area. Y-you baka.
It is very easy to condition yourself to do it. It is fairly hidden activity, too, unless someone is really staring at you.

Thinking of going for a height adjustable desk so I can switch between seated and standing. Since standing up all the time doesn't sound good either.

I usually pace around when thinking and get drowsy when seated for prolonged periods of time so it seems like a good idea.

Main barrier is the cost for a motorized desk, cost almost as much as a top of the line office chair.

sounds nice, wonder how well that would work at low speed. Could double as a foot rest tucked under the desk when seated.

Managed to find frames for as low as 350AUD locally, it is manually cranked though and you need to assemble it yourself. The desk itself is not supplied so you would have to buy a top as well.

Tempted considering the price, approx 80Kg is heaps for me and the size can be extended way more than enough to fit 2 monitors (1 Landscape, 1 portrait).

I'd have to look into it more.

I have a home gym and I'm taking steroids so I basically just work for thirty to forty five minutes, get up and do whatever exercise I'm up to and then when I finish the set I sit back down and readjust my posture for another period of time at my desk.

Extremes are bad, who would have guessed. Alternate between the two, take breaks, stretch etc. Just take care of yourself, it's not that hard when you're in the routine.

Always get clothes that fit you and everything will look good as long as you don't have a beer gut.

Also hit the gym or at least get some dumbbells and a simple routine to get in shape, getting some muscle helps a lot with how clothes fit, getting too much muscle makes you look weird again, especially manlets.
