As someone who's still in university, how does the tech industry/workplace view tattoos?
In most cases the tech industry is a little more lax about matters of dress and appearance than other professional positions, but it's still the business world and the stigmas are still the same.

get a nodejs tattoo on your arm, wear a beard, hipster glasses and flannel shirts. maybe gauge your ears and wear a beanie too. you will be hired on the spot.
tattoos and piercings are very stupid.. if you have visible tattoos, it's a great indicator that your opinion doesn't really matter at all and nobody should take you seriously. it also means you're probably unstable and desperately need attention.
