I'm on the market for a cheap, low to mid tier laptop just for light university stuff like running autocad and basic 3d rendering to replacing my aging current one and I've been wondering, why can't find I find one with a CPU that manages to be significantly better than my shitty 5 year old one?

I know that, but I was expecting 15w CPUs to catch up sooner. Seems like I can put off that upgrade for a couple more years, though my laptop is all kinds of fucked up.
