I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I love Linux, but I'm annoyed by much of its userbase. Just say it's a pretty cool distribution of GNU/Linux instead of literally being a consolewar faggot.

Windows is cool, macOS is pretty but lacks stuff I'm used to in Windows and GNU/Linux (no window snapping? WTF man!). macOS is great if you're already in Apple's ecosystem and Windows and Linux can only hope to provide such coherency.

In my experience, Linux is much quicker and easier to setup than Windows to match my workflow but I recently discovered Ninite which saves me a lot of time.

Cheers! :-)

I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Most computer users who run the entire Linux system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.

This really isn't a contest. The one is free software, software that doesn't fuck you in the behind and that's completely under your control, and not under the control of the company that makes it.

The other is a simple botnet client that allows you to run normie shit, but knows more about your habits than yourself and reports it to a company that capitalizes on the data.

Linux which btw. should be called "Gnu/Linux" has nothing to do with smugness, it's about being free and valuing freedom.

I just got done with an intensive gaming session on Windows. Linux users will never know this feel. So much adrenaline when playing team matchups with all your neurons activating in your brain.

Free software is a pathway to depression.

>>58946225
are you suggesting you can't play games in linux?
>>
>>58946289
what do you think? PlayonLinux and Wine only work 10% of the time and almost always have errors especially for packages from sourceforge. Even if by some miracle you install the game, the performance is trash with 60-80% fps loss and garbage graphics.

Pathetic.

I've had just as many problems on Windows 10, for example needing to create an Xbox account in order to disable game recording, or after that having to figure out how to sign out of the online account for my new login it automatically made for me. Not to mention trying to disable advertisements and spying (which in all likelihood did nothing and I will be seeing ads next update)

Wtf dude? Lol

No. Linux is doing great.

We never had anything more powerful overall. Which is why it rules virtually everything from the not entirely tiny embedded machines to supercomputers.

And also the majority of personal computers -measured by both time share people spend on them, or number of devices- now. (Yea, it''s Android rather than GNU/Xorg/Linux - but still powered by Linux).

Many games run very well on wine.

Just as important, you got a decent number of open sauce games in your package manager and another decent number of proprietary games in Steam. Not as many as on Windows (if you are using Windows for muh games, I kinda do understand), but still more than people got on most of the last few generations of consoles.

I've used both Linux and Windows extensively and I find them pretty interchangeable these days for all of my purposes except the hour of video games I play every other day. And I'll be damned if I restart my computer when I spontaneously decide to or if I'm going to deal with an emulator/bridge that "almost always works" but never actually does.

So I usually stick to Windows these days. Sure, it's the developers' fault for ignoring the many tools for making big-3-compatible development simple, but, hey, can't change the world.

I have felt for years that the somewhat "obvious" thing to do is to have a gaming machine for Windows and then do the rest (voting, banking, accounting, communication, work ...) on a Linux machine.
