In physics we are currently in a state where a lot of things researched are only theoretical, so it will take a few decades until we find some use for the results.

both are pretty necessary man. You hear all this stuff about a "universal income" in silicon valley? It's because automation is improving to a point where almost all blue-collar jobs are disappearing, soon to be completely gone in ~10-20 years. That's robotics, that's computer science; but it wouldn't be possible without the physics that led to the improved semiconductor materials that made these better robotics possible.

Physics makes the new discoveries, Computer Science / Engineering puts them to work.
