What's the big deal about UEFI? Does it make any difference

My shit HP laptop came with shit UEFI firmware which prevents me to dualboot properly. Even if I configure GRUB properly it'll ignore its EFI file and boot into Windows. The only way for me to boot into GRUB is by going to the boot menu by spamming F9 at boot which is fucking annoying. Apparently it's a known issue and it's unfixable. It's just hardcoded to boot into Windows no matter what.

To answer your question, UEFI has some good stuff but also allows for retarded shit like this to happen.

my laptop has UEFI, and I have literally no issue dual-booting Windows and GNU/Linux. But it happens sometimes it is hard to access on some computers.

Why would it not suck.

if uefi happens to work without issues on your machine, you might get slightly better boot times and better forward compatibility with future OSs. But legacy is fine too.

Forgot to add that on my desktop, the firmware regularly fucks up my ESP partition, presumably because of the lack of Windows boot files.

Old style = drivers load one after another using very little of the CPU.

UEFI = Everything loads simultaneously in parallel. Few new features. Faster boot.

UEFI is better. People that can't get it to work clearly need to RTFM.

Not him, I have the same problem. You just would have to keep your laptop in legacy (efi) boot and linux would work fine. Although you can dual boot linux and windows with uefi my laptop won't detect my live USB in uefi boot so I'm stick switching between boots until I find a solution.
