How do people get caught torrenting?

I am currently torrenting some music production software, valued at around 6-800$.

I am not using a VPN, I am unable too (don't ask why)

Realistically, what are the chances I am caught?

Do you live in the US?
>>
>>58909162
Yes
>>
>>58909151
snitches in peerlists
isps monitoring for basically any torrent traffic, whether legal or not
>>
>>58909162
FLOW CHART TIME!!
Do you live in the US?
Are you pirating new material?
Are you retarded?
If YES, you're going to get caught.
Are you downloading weebshit?
Music?
Books?
Gaymes?
If YES probably not.
>>
>>58909151
You have a very high chance of being caught if you are in the US and not connected to a VPN. If you're using a public tracker then you're gonna get v&
>>
I have downloaded tons of software recently (Photoshop, logic pro, after effects) and i have not been caught. I'm only worried about the file size.
>>
>>58909205
most of ISP in my country don't give a fuck about what I pirate even if they were to get those spam mails from mpaa and other shit

I wouldn't call this subtle, but somehow still managed to bait serious replies.
Good job

i've been pirating since the year 2000 and have never gotten caught. i doubt anyone has gotten caught desu
>>
>>58909215
Is that AND or OR?
>>
>>58909151
100%, retard

there are entire companies that do nothing but track torrenters for companies like native instruments and mpaa
>>
I only torrent through tor so i'm completely anonymous
>>
>>58909666
Please don't do that, for the sake of the Tor network. Torrent through a VPN, seedbox, or i2p.
>>
>>58909151
you're fine unless you live in a police state :^)

>>
>>58909151
Set upload speed to 1kb/s, leaching kills torrents eventually, it's only seeders that continue torrents, I think they don't give a shit if you're leaching
>>
>>58909151
>How do people get caught torrenting?
1.Copyright organizations hire a firm to monitor public torrent swarms.
2. if you add a torrent file to your client you will connect to the swarm and be part of it
3. anyone in the swarm can see your IP including the guys that monitor it.
4.the firm that monitors the swarms sends a letter to your ISP and the ISP forwards the letter to (You)
>>
>>58911504
You're liable even if you upload a tiny bit, which you have to do to use torrents at all.
Even ACK packets get in trouble!
>>
>>58909205
>isps
WRONG!
ISPs don't monitor your traffic.
>>
>>58911515
>You're liable even if you upload a tiny bit
That's cause they just monitor the swarm's IPs and not their activity. So you you just join the swarm that's reason enough for them to send the letter.
They do it automatically.
>>
>>58909151
Don't use your own wifi nigga. Drive to the local coffeshop and use their WiFi.
>>
>>58911572
You can easily hack your neighbor's wifi's pass.
And in case shit happens get in his router and disable log feature.
I'm currently using my neighbor's internet and get triple the speed.
If the cops come about some illegal shit he's in deeper trouble cause his wifi wasn't even open.

You should pirate something worth more, like this (take the dashes out):

Infohash #1: 1C47387C7--E96CBEAD015286B50ABA879--44AE8191
Infohash #2: D26E0924B372FD--5CB505AF9FAA64--51644A31A7B1
Infohash #3: 49--CCE40E5D35EBD23CC1--AC9E2D1BF3AAB--7C8CBBC

(Windows fags: #1 and #3. GNU fags: #2 and #3. Mac fags: gas yourself.)

This suite costs, easily, $100K or more.

>>
>>58911971
Pretty much. Every now and then they use someone as a scapegoat and sue them for copyright infringement. Odds are you won't.
>>
>>58911889
What is it?
>>
>>58909151
>How do people get caught torrenting?
1. They live in 3rd world shit countries like murika
2. They use public trackers
3. They use unecrypted connections
4. They don't use any kind of black lists (peerblock)
>>
>>58911996

> Can't even throw the hashes into Google

This is what /g/ has become.

It appears to be Siemens NX. A $20,000 industrial CAD program

Depends on the ISP, some will throttle your connection and even disconnect you and all the while you keep paying.
Some companies (I remember a porn production company doing that) drag hundreds in a collective law suit.
>>
>>58911488
Shit literally released that week. Like a new bluray movie or (rarer these days) music.

And even then they go after you if you are on a YIFY type popular release.

But if you are in Germany they go after you for every type of release.
>>
>>58912014
3. It does in most european countries. Here in pooland the police is known to sniff connections of some random people in collaboration with ISPs
4. If you block ip ranges of some known anti-piracy organisations it can indeed make a difference. Depends on where you live.
>>
>>58909151
i live in the US and i've gotten about 5-6 dmca notices, my isp has shut down my internet on one occasion. all the dmca notices were for films, one was for an album of the clash...

Is torrenting porn a crime in USA?
>>
>>58912081
What kind of porn are we talking about?
>>
>>58912051
3. you obviously don't understand the protocol if you think it has to be sniffed, encryption is to avoid throttling
4. peerblock is a meme that has never been proven to do anything, further proving you're clueless
>>
>>58912059
Six strikes program was recently cancelled anyway
>>
>>58912088
I mean a usual porn not cp and zoo.
>>
I don't know, here the law says that you can't get copyright protected material and use it to make money but they don't talk about just download a movie and watch it so it is basically legal.
They just shut down big p2p sites and sometimes you hear on the news an article that basically says YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR and they conveniently avoid the fact that for the downloaded it is perfectly legal.
I lust go to 1337x.to and download whatever the fuck I want

That's where it starts. That's not mentioning $4K/year with the starting down payment.

Add on everything. Simulation, factory creation, ship building, everything, because the crack enables everything. Instantly worth more than half of /g/ browsers homes.

So ISPs can fuck with your connection if you live in Clapland? That's disgusting and sad, so much for your freedumz. So how do you avoid being caught? Private trackers and VPNs? I'm asking because the drooling fascist here are probably going to attempt to implement this tracking sooner or later.

Are you the same cunt that said wrong earlier? I'm going to assume you're American. You are wrong. ISPs in some jurisdictions are required to monitor.
>>
>>58909215
I got a notice for downloading some old as shit music before I went private trackers master race
>>
>>58912564
>ISPs in some jurisdictions
In what jurisdictions?
Seems to me like you're talking out of your ass.
All I know is that it was proposed that the ISP monitor but that never happened anywhere.
>>
>>58912363
So tell us how he's wrong or fuck off you shitposting cunt.
>>
>>58912564
Examples? I know about 3-strikes and similar systems in the EU, but the ISPs are doing specific enforcement actions *when they get a complaint*, not doing the monitoring themselves.
>>
>>58912587
Copyright orgs hire a company that uses markmonitor or some newer tech to monitor swarms based on hashes of torrent files that were checked for copyright infringement.
THE MONITORING COMPANY DECIDES WHICH TORRENT INFRINGES THE RIGHTS OF THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER NOT THE ISP, YOU SHITHEADS.
THE MONITORING COMPANY sends a letter that was automatically made to the ISP that automatically forwards it to your dumb ass.

I can only speak for the one I use (Empornium) but you can use VPNs with it without a problem.

>Otherwise how do they track your download/uploads to your account to track seed radio?
User specific passkeys.
