City of Munich got fucked on the Linux deal though.

Instead of using an upstream distribution with support like Ubuntu with Canonical support they hired some dumb woman (literally) who made a poorly supported Kubuntu fork that wasn't updated at all.

Still, anything is worth watching Microsoft panick.
They literally flew Ballmer to germany to talk them out of it.
Talk about damage control kek.
>>
>>58912416
Still, the biggest failure was the end user.

We're talking about thousands of clueless government workers who found themselves completely befuddled that the spreadsheet they had to work with now didn't have the name "Microsft Excel" and used a different, unfamiliar icon.
>>
Linux is for niggers, memes becoming reality.

Nice FUD. Actually is was many missing macros and functionality that LO/OO misses causing huge amounts of time to be wasted. In the real world people use more than just Writer/Word and actually use the entire office to its full capabilities, something freetards are still yet to understand due to severe mental disability.

Nice FUD.

In the real world all government workers do on their machines is either access a server-client based service (be it by the web browser or a desktop client) and use spreadsheets and word processing to shit out tons of template-based documents.
>>
>>58912430
Ha, no. Even if you "learn" Linux, it still takes 3x the amount of time to troubleshoot issues, which you have to pay help desk for, which then makes it more expensive than Windows.
>>
>>58912453
Still a one-person team of maintainers.

Look at Ubuntu Kylin. Completely different approach to the problem and wastly different results.
Canonical wants to get the Chinese market, contacted Chinese officials and with the cooperation made a Chinese Ubuntu spinoff with the party approval.

All while maintaining as much compatibility with the upstream Ubuntu.
>>
>>58908580
as far as I understood is that they have a custom distro and forks of all software, which are never updated
if they just used an up to date ubuntu/mint it would be fine
also probably replaced the IT dept with refuggees
>>
>>58912532
Ha, not really.
You'd knew that if you ever had a fucking job in this field.

End-user does not troubleshoot issues because no matter the platform/operating systems they do not have the priviledges to make any changes whatsoever.
Don't bullshit me about office workers figuring out stuff on their own on Windows when they have troubles wrapping their minds around using a different Spreadsheet software.
All they can is try rebooting and wiggling their USB flash drive if it doesn't connect.

Everything is done by the administrator of the system.
And just how you hire someone with experience in Microsoft ecosystem to maintain Windows Machines you are supposed to hire someone with experience working with Linux to maintain Linux machines.

You're just a shill.

It doesn't hide itself. It's on /boot. And it works well with Windows. While the Windows bootloader does not work at all with Linux.

I do, and while almost every user could be retarded, frankly Libre office and whatever else will never catch up to all of the features Microsoft Office has added in the last 20 years. This all anyone looking in needs to know about open source. A bunch of zealot assholes that are upset when end users complain they don't have the features they use every day and tell them they're wrong somehow. The money gets the features implemented, bitching at end users gets them back to Windows real fast.

Grub is supposed to start the windows bootloader not the other way around because windows bootloader does not support OSes other than Windows (lmao currysoft again)

What you did is overwrite grub with windows bootloader and be befuddled why it doesn't work.

ITT: Spillover from /v/ blaming their ineptitude with anything other than Windows on the OS.

It's kind of funny seeing so many of these supposedly really "technically adept" types go all apeshit over people using Linux or OSX. My experience is that it's usually just their ego telling them that "No, you can't be bad at something relating to computers, so it has to be something other than you" to avoid having to admit that they only know how to use Windows.

Personally I dumped Windows for OSX around 2007 and after a lot of tinkering with UNIX stuff in OSX all my desktops have since then run Linux (while my laptops run OSX). At this point Windows has to me become "That OS the clueless, kids who want to play games and those who have to use some really obscure tools only available on Windows". Pretty much all the software I run into, even the obscure stuff like AVR Studio, Matlab, Quartus II, etc., run on ether Linux or OSX.

Never had ANY of these problems. Ubuntu (and it's derivates) is from my experience the best out of the box OS, far above windows and just as good as MacOS.
And you're just saying shit, drives are all accessible no matter if they're NTFS, FAT or anything else. None of this >>58912639 can be true unless all your hardware is physically broken. With the exception of task bar being on the side which can be fixed by installing unity tweak tool and setting it on bottom, or by copy-pasting a command into the terminal. But having it on side is better on wide screens and that's the reason they put it there by default.

>>58912944
I have an idea. Record the insides of your PC and record yourself creating a bootable disc/drive and installing the OS. Post the video on YouTube with the title "/v/toddler trying to install Ubuntu". Post the link here and we'll help you in the comment section.

>Boss calls you into office after [asshole higher up] gets hit by ransomware for the fourth time and can't do anything
>Throws ""report""" onto the desk
>"Anon... this is becoming a serious problem. We need to find a solution."
>pauses and adjusts his position in his chair, phone vibrates on the desk
>"How do we go about preventing this from happening again?"
>"Make backups, train or make a point of hiring tech-literate people and tidy the file servers."
>"That's an expenditure we can't afford to make right now"
>"Not to mention the downtime at this time of the month would mean a disaster for [reason]"

You just can't win. I need to quit before I get fired.

what's wrong, anon? can't prevent a little malware while;
a. users can run arbitrary programs
b. maybe even admin rights for no reason
c. no frequent offline backup plan (offline as in not a fucking network share that can be obliterated by a malware-ridden users' machine)
d. not allowed to change these facts, because it's "too costly" or "too inconvenient"

c'mon, go, you're a wizard, right? do some magic

these faggots were so idiots that instead of using SUSE or openSUSE ,made their own version and fucked up

the problem isnt so much with what OS they use, the problem is more to do with the fact that they have no idea how to do anything with their computer to begin with. government workers in germany are often idiots and the sad truth is that they have no conception of abstract processes.

they wouldn't understand GUIs no matter what OS they ran on, thats why in many german administrations they let all the computer stuff go through a web browser so that it just runs anywhere. the workers also dont get paid to understand a GUI or an OS, they get paid to do shit. they dont want to put any brainpower into understanding what theyre doing. its a problem with the workers and the culture

t. worked in german offices for 15 years
