Serious question.

How can I block emojis from my browsers and system? Using Ubuntu GNOME and I tried deleting emojis but they are still showing up in browsers.

Firefox has built in support for them now

just continue using linux. no emoji for you. you literally have to install special fonts, you have to replace default browser fonts, you have to fuck with freetype to enable them.

it's fucking ridiculous.

Interesting. Lower window = Chromium. Top = Firefox Dev. Same page.

>no emoji for you.
If you read my previous post you will find out that I don't want emojis and emojis exist in Linux browsers.

I know it's hard for a typical wintoddler to read but come on.
>>
>>58907652
>you have to replace default browser fonts
>you have to fuck with freetype to enable them
I didn't have to do either of these things.

>you have to install special fonts
Duh. Of course you have to install a font that has glyphs for emoji codepoints.

>>58907618
>how do I display them in chromium?
Uh, just make sure that you have a font installed that has glyphs for the emoji codepoints? Chromium has support for some of the common ones baked in. (I have Chromium 56 installed.)

You probably don't want to use emojis in a terminal, because they're double-width characters. But again, you should just have to install an appropriate font, and fontconfig should pick it out when it tries to display an emoji.
>>
>>58908149
>Duh. Of course you have to install a font that has glyphs for emoji codepoints.
If you use anything other than FF, you MUST replace the default font with the one that has emoji.

kek'd. Google will replace Linux on Android with Fusciha in the near future and no one will notice. NO ONE. because Android apps are not using any of the Linux services directly. You can't even call Linux syscalls yourself.

>>58909851

Yeah, because Google won't abandon this like every other little project they start that costs them resources but doesn't contribute to their bottom line.
>>
>>58909895
It won't because Linux is too big for mobile and IoT devices... plus it's not secure. Remember DirtyCow?

You must be fucking retarded if you can't figure this out OP. Here's like 4 different ways:

https://github.com/eosrei/emojione-color-font

https://github.com/eosrei/twemoji-color-font

Look for the package ttf-ancient-fonts for your distro.

all of these solutions replace Bitstream Vera and you must set it up as your default font. That is awful because your webpages will never look right and shit will not align correctly with CSS.

That's a fucking hack and no one should use it.

>Look for the package ttf-ancient-fonts for your distro.

hmmm

1 aur/ttf-ancient-fonts 2.59-2 (26) (2.45)
Unicode Fonts for Ancient Scripts

What does that have to do with emoji?

Tried it. Didn't work at all since I don't use Firefox. And if I did use FF, that font is not needed anymore as Firefox Dev already supports Emoji out of the box.

I then googled some shit and came across this answer:

>Queston: OS X has emoji support inside terminal, and I'm a little jelly.
>Emoji One Color SVGinOT Font brings emoji support to Ubuntu, but at the moment the terminal will only render monochrome emojis.
>Is there a way to get these color beauties in gnome terminal?

>Answer: I'm the creator of that font.
>Sorry, there is not way to see SVGinOT (SVG-in-OpenType) color fonts in anything other than Gecko-based applications such as Firefox and Thunderbird right now. I made these fonts to solve the "chicken or the egg" problem: there were no color fonts and so no reason to support them. Now there are color fonts... Next steps: Probably a feature request on Launchpad?

https://askubuntu.com/questions/781851/use-emoji-inside-terminal

So there you go. You cannot have emojis in Linux other than in Firefox.

I just tried copy/pasting emoji into gnome-terminal and it was a fucking mess. I did echo " " and pasted emoji where the space is. whole line started moving. Using arrow keys made it even worse. Hitting Enter did what you'd expect it to do. But man... Readline (or whatever the cause is) does not like emoji.

>Who do you think makes the bait threads?

Nah, capcha probably has no connection with this.

The bait threads are just a phenomenon of anonymous forums. A poster, any poster, will get kicks out of having a popular thread or post that receives tons of comments and (you)s. Those who make bait threads, however, do it by trying to enrage everyone and evoke flame wars.

The bait poster himself is absolutely elated by the carnage he produces. When you have several such bait threads and dozens of bait posters within other threads, then you end up with a horrible discussion board experience.

No, not true at all. Emoji are not just another unicode code points. You also need font rasterizer than can handle colors and SVG. Linux stacks don't do that well.
