If you hold down "." for more than one frame it will play for like half a second, instead of stopping as soon as you release the key. The longer you hold the key down the longer it plays for after you release the key. It makes it feel really sluggish and unresponsive.

Almost all of those are due to weird config issues or very odd usecases like trying to watch two videos at once or w/e

Just tested it on this specific file. I was surprised the VLC-like bug does actually happen. However, it's only limited to seeking via dragging the bar.

As a test, I opened a more modern file encoded in h264 and stored in an MKV. The issue does not happen. Here's a webm on the matter.

FINALLY, I did the most retarded thing possible - I took the video and audio streams from the OGM file and just stuck them in an MP4 container. I did not reencode the video. FFMPEG threw a complete fit of error messages such as:
[mp4 @ 0x558e8ef76340] Non-monotonous DTS in output stream 0:0; previous: 14283841501, current: 14283424418; changing to 14283841502. This may result in incorrect timestamps in the output file.

Low and behold! The issue completely disappears!

THEREFORE, this issue does happen, but it is caused by an ancient badly encoded video stored in an ancient outdated file container.

PS: ffmpeg's concat filter is a bitch

If you're curious, OGM is a way to store video in Ogg files that predates Theora. It packages VfW frames in, so it can use any VfW codec, but usually tends to be really early binary DivX encoders. Once Theora came out, development stopped as Theora was better than DivX.

I don't think there was ever a good standard on how to locate keyframes for OGM. mpv expects the container to do it, but clearly it's not working here.

Linked mkvs are god sent for stuff like anime intros/outros with lots of action which you don't want to be bitrate starved because the actual show is mostly stills.

MPV pleb here.

What determines how much "extra" cache is used when streaming with mpv (the 'cache' message at the bottom of the on-screen display)?

I seems like normally I see "10s + 8MB". But sometimes I get tens of Megabytes and sometimes I get zero KB. I not having any issues, I'm just curious why it isn't consistent.
>>
>>58896262
Ì€
cache-default = 8192
cache = 30720

Cache determines how much data the player will try to pre-buffer when loading video. The value applies both to streaming online and playing offline files. The amount is in KB. It pre-caches this amount of data after the current position in the video, and holds the same amount of data before the current position of the video. This allows faster seeking both forward and back without the need to download again.

Sometimes you only see some prebuffered seconds without extra data. This often happens during live streams simply because there is no additional data available. You obviously can't seek forward, while seeking back is very limited.

Name one thing that linked mkvs do better than ordered chapters in separate files.
>>
>>58896347
>This often happens during live streams simply because there is no additional data available.
The amount of data available is determined by the server you are getting the vid from? Or is mpv making a calculation and telling the server how much it wants and when it wants the data?
>>
>>58896445
>The amount of data available is determined by the server you are getting the vid from? Or is mpv making a calculation and telling the server how much it wants and when it wants the data?
Depends solely on the server. mpv asks the server to give it the amount specified in the cache setting, and the server gives you as much as it can. Also, it's logical that you can't preload loads of future data on a live stream because this future video still isn't created.

I'm not entirely sure how mpv handles past data on live streams though. I sometimes try seeking backwards and it tends to work. This might lead to a disruption your stream though, and you skip back to the real-time position of the stream.
>>
>>58896507
Thank you.
>>
>>58896359
Nothing.
About the only reason for it is to split large movie files into disc sized pieces so you can burn it and either watch it from the disc one at a time or copy all the parts off the discs into a single directly and they will play contiguously without any extra steps.
>>
>>58896711
>directly
DIRECTORY.
>>
>>58896262
>But sometimes I get tens of Megabytes and sometimes I get zero KB.
Sometimes mpv can't use the stream cache. This used to be the case when playing DASH streams (I have no idea if it's still the case after the recent DASH changes.)

Something like MPC subtitles edit menu.
Other than adding some rules in mpv.config
Currently I extract the subtitles then edit the .ass file with a text editor.

No. XDCC is an incredibly primitive protocol.

There is no encryption or even any real security.

The IRC channel is not actually involved. It's completely between the clients, hence Direct Client-to-Client.
