>fork GNOME3
>only change is patching in a thumbnail file picker
>merge everything from upstream automatically
>get 99% of GNOME3's market because they will never add in thumbnails
Give me one good reason not to do this.

Because it's still shit that keeps losing features and configuration options.
I thought someone did this already. I've had the one for gtk2 installed for ages.
I RECOGNIZE THAT SMUG
>>58883316
Thumbnails seem to be the most well-known problem, especially on /g./
>>58883302
The file picker is not drawn by GNOME, but by GTK, you unbelievable fucktard.
You have no idea how it works and think you can fix it? Please inhale shit fumes.
>>58883400
N-no bully pls...
what's so hard about putting in thumbnails anyway? why doesn't gnome have that already?
>>58883302
>>get 99% of GNOME3's market because they will never add in thumbnails
wait, what?
XFCE's file picker has had previews for ages, do people even still use Gnome?
If you can easily add thumbnails why not just put it in a pull request?

You can give them a pull request any time

>no one's tried to send them a patch for this in the 13 years they haven't had thumbnails
They actively want no thumbnails in their file picker.

what is the rationale

Your guess is as good as mine.

This should have been done ages ago. Post the fork link and i might help if i have the time.

>Using Gnome anything

Bad enough I'm stuck eith GTK3, why would anyone want the full experience?
There is your answer.
Nobody's done this yet? I thought this was supposed to be what FOSS was good for. What's the point of forkable projects if nobody wants to fork them to add an incredibly simple feature that everyone wants?

Have fun maintaining a patchset that no distro will ever ship
>>58888051
An icon view patch has existed for gtk2 since about 2015.
>>58888149
>maintaining
All that's needed to be maintained is the file picker patch; the rest should be taken from upstream automatically.

tfw this patch is only good for 2.24.30 which I have to keep an old ebuild around for to use
>>58888607
It's only a matter of time before I'm forced to update from this version of gtk2 and never have thumbnails again
>>58883302
Just drag and drop.

But the last commit was 9 days ago.

that's not a commit that was me commenting on the gist last actual change was on September 15, 2015

Non autistic people who don't post to a of images in imageboards don't care. So your 99% is more like a 30% in reality.
>>58883416
I once looked into showing hidden files in the desktop, back in the gnome 2 days.
It was literally an if check to see if it was the desktop in nautilus to ignore the setting. I'm pretty sure the file picker is the same.
Whatever happened to GNU Guile anyway.

>tfw the botnet wants me to starve
People have been bitching about this for literally a decade. They are purposely not doing it. Fucking ridiculous.
give me the quick gestalt on gnome /g/
