Proprietary extensions. Also, opening the same document with different versions of Microsoft Word also has issues. More reasons I've started switching to LaTeX wherever possible.

By default it's don't follow the open standard. Therefore you can see some incompatibility between 2 MSO versions too.

At work i use LO too, despite the MSO2016 available. For releasing docs we use pdfs so compatibility is not a problem.
