I went without an anti virus for 5 years and everything worked amazing.
1) I devirus my own PC through safe mode and deleting each virus from my written down list from Google.
2) I don't download shady shit and even then I immediately delete it.
3) The anti virus slows me down more than the actual virus.

ive been seeing (not on my machines, i help my family and friends) a bunch of viruses that persistently reinstall fake coupon services and search engine hijackers. stuff that redirects your basically every other time you load an http:// page. pretty difficult to remove as far as my experience, and ive had people that have adblock, don't torrent, don't fill russian surveys, etc, that still get them.

stuff like "MySavings.exe" but it is used by two separate services that can't be disabled normally, so ive been using safe mode to erase the service files. it's very low profile, per se, as well. inconspicuous files, not a lot of ram usage, and on a modern computer it's hard to tell if the browser redirects are a virus or just product of shitty sites.
