Apple has been the best at supporting their older computers
the 2007 imac got updates all the way until sierra this year.
The pro's would have gotten more official updates if they had a 64 bit efi, but for some reason apple put a 32 bit efi.
Now with sierra it's all macs 2010 and newer (so at least 7 years of updates)
for iphones with ios 10 the oldest device to get it was the iphone 5 which is 5 years old now.
