How far away are we from RAM becoming obsolete? As in, can SSDs become fast enough to negate the use of RAM completely?
>>
Never. RAM has currently 4 to 8 times faster writes and 1400 times lower latency.

How far away are we from harddrives becoming obsolete? As in, can RAM become high capacity enough to negate the use of a HD completely?

No, ram is volatile, you wouldn't have persistence
>>
>>58844505
SSDs eventually wear out
>>
>>58844753
make it persistent and sell it as super fast ssds
i'ma genius
>>
>>58844571
>Never.
>currently
So your evidence as to how it would never happen is because it currently can't?

>>58844765
Will SSDs always eventually wear out, though? The 950Pro pictured will last longer than an 850 EVO, right? Is it possible for SSDs to reach a point where they will effectively be written to enough times to replace RAM?

>He doesn't run Puppylinux in RAM

Look at this faggot
>>
>>58844753
This just gave me the best idea. It's radical, so hear me out before you hate it. What if you just loaded everything to RAM then saved it to disk every now and then when the system wasn't busy?

Super fast and shit
>>
>>58844874
no, it's not radical, people have been doing that for years.
>>
Most of your operating system is going to be copied into memory when you start it anyways, I have a ramdisk but I use it for stupid shit like video game assets
>>58844874
That is literally how memory pages and virtual memory works

First paragraph was meant for

Pro and Evo are utter shit compared to Enterprise. Just do a desktop comparison to enterprise for Samsung to make it easy. The scale of how much you can write in comparison to the desktop drive is so big they literally measure it differently. Do the math so you can compare them and be amazed at how much you're getting cucked by desktop class drives like the evo and prive.

Maybe in the next decade.
Maybe never
