MPV vs VLC

Which is better?

I installed MPV and I don't like it much.
>>
VLC:graphical glitches

MPV: fast and flexible in almost every respect.

VLC and MPV can accomplish the same tasks, but in every respect, MPV always does it better.

What complaints do you have against it?
>>

How is that better then MPV or VLC?

That doggo is about to get fucked up
>>
>>58830490
The design isn't really all that good. Doesn't have a volume control, and it doesn't let me skip forward to another video in my folder.

>>58830498
Sure is.
>>
>>58830388
Use smplayer with mpv as backend. It's pretty good.
>>
>>58830531
Looks quite nice actually. Is it like a skin for MPV? I'm actually willing to give it a try.
>>
>>58830517
It does all of that. Read the docs.
https://mpv.io/manual/stable/
>>
>>58830602
Thanks!
>>
>>58830629
No prob
>>
>falling for the "high fidelity video player"-meme
>>
>>58830665
What do you suggest then anon?
>>
I use VLC simply because the past 3 distros I used ended up breaking mpv due to uneven releases of it and ffmpeg. Honestly I'm not sure why I should bother coming back.
>>
>>58830766
VLC is not so bad. I have used it before without any issues.
>>
I installed MPV yesterday to see what /g/ is all about. Being a minimal fag, I really like the no GUI style. Then I tested mpv with a movie which, by pure chance, happened to have bigger resolution than my screen size. Vlc played it, no problems. mpv on the other hand gave a black screen with a window like overlay which was also black. Immediately removed that piece of shit. Now don't you fucking tell me that I can't edit config. I can but I fucking won't. Why would someone spend time doing shit which a media player should trivially do in the first place? At least play a file correctly so I can tinker with settings later on.

Fuck you.
>>
>>58830766
Manjarofag here, MPV always works fine for me.
>>
>>58830892
That's because Manjaro is little more than a freeze on Arch's repository. I don't have these problems on Debian Stable either. I have different reasons for not using each of the two.
>>
>>58830884
Install smplayer then, you dipdick.
>>
@58830884
here's a counterfeit (you)

If you were being serious, leave the internet before you get a stroke. There's way more important things to rage quit from atm.

You have more of a reason to be angry at Donald Trump that a media player that, by your record, gave you a problem on ONE video file which caused you to rage quit.
>>
>>58830933
How?
>>
>>58830388
gif
>>
>>58830933
Vlc is okay. But thanks. Downloading it just in case.

@58830934
Yes that ONE file was everything for me.
>angry at Donald Trump
Hillary shill spotted. Mmm.. I love those delicious tears. Fag
>>
@58831021
Then my last comment still stands.
Actually, I like Trumps policies alot. It's a long needed change from obongo.

It's flexible, good performance, lightweight, C++, and you can use with madVR, LAV filters. Simply the best.

Cool. Would you say that it's better then MPV and how is it compared to smplayer?
smplayer has some really cool features.

I honestly like the looks much better.

I like that smplayer can continue playing a video even if you close it and come back some time later.

This looks cool, but I'm very happy with VLC. Why should I switch?
>>
I noticed a few days ago that VLC works perfectly fine when playing (relatively) uncompressed video files, even when the resolution of said file is higher than my actual screen resolution. It did, however, go gray all over the place when I played an x265 video. Anyone know how that's possible?

MPC-HC
>>
>>58831267
You can do the same shit in mpv. Just quit with a capital Q and it will save your place.
>>
>>58830388
OSX/*buntu here. They are interchangeable as far as I notice but with a few GUI things that irritate me about each. Doing multi-pane work sucks with VLC but MPV is not as good at tweaking wonky rips.

>VLC
Can send audio over 100% which can be useful
Has playlist for optimal fapping

Does MPV or VLC allow you to throttle the amount of bandwidth used when streaming?
>>
>>58837834

you just don't know how to use the conf file

If you need advanced functions like playlist and a mouse-oriented gui: vlc
else
mpv
>>
>>58830388
mpv is so simple to use, it just...werks.

I could go back a year and say it didn't work too good, but now its fantastic. It's come into its own and i lurrvvee it. To be able to change audio and sub tracks with one click each...the majesty of it.
>>
>>58830884
The problem is on your end. I'm playing 1080p videos on a 768p screen forced into 1600x900 resolution. MPV plays just fine.

That's exactly the problem for me. I don't want to go into a config file when I view media. Music is important enough for me. Movies and fap webms aren't. VLC is perfect for casual watchers, because it just werks :^)

Not the guy you were responding to btw
>>
>>58838065
Saved with that filename. nice.
>>
>>58838121
Like any media player you are going to want to tweak the settings to better suit your hardware and needs. I dont see the big deal in setting up the conf file once and then never have to touch it again.
>>
>>58837960

Why cant it just werk on my hardware? What is there to tweak other than volume?
>>
>>58830388
Potplayer masterrace.
>>
I'm too dumb to make a config for mpv so I use Baka-MX
>>
>>58838719
It does, you dont have to mess with anything if you dont want. some people just like to fine tune it, especially if they know what they are doing. And this is /g/ so I'd like to think most people do, but unfortunately it doesnt always seem to be.
>>
>>58838121
>vlc
>for music
Enjoy your last second being cut off
>>
>>58838775
>It does
Why do you think so? mpv uses gpu extensively, unlike that piece of shit vlc, and if there is a problem with his gpu drivers (or simply too old gpu) mpv won't work.
>>
>>58839077
I'm saying it does work without messing with the conf file. One of the reason it works without tweaking anything is because it uses swdec by default.
>>
>>58839123
When I said
> mpv uses gpu extensively
I didn't mean hwdec
>>
>>58839123
MPV works without you having to touch the conf file. I'm using it on both Linux and Windows and I have no idea where the conf file even is. It works great out of the box.

Is there a directshow successor?
If yes, why is madshi still basing his software on this pile of craps?

Is angle, currently the only backend that doesn't crash my system, a good technology or is it still terrible? I noticed I can use more meme features with madvr than with mpv, is it the main cause or is there anything else?
