Why is it so popular? What's the best display technology?
Because its something different
LED is still the best

>LED
People throw their phones away after 1-2 years and AMOLED saves battery.
But I agree, my Nexus 6p is barely a year old and I can notice the burn in from the bottom bar when watching full screen videos.

more like, why are on-screen buttons so popular
>>58805749
Even if there were no on-screen buttons you'd still have the notification bar burn in

It's the best

AMOLED

Burn in is the least of my issues with onscreen buttons.

Can you tell me, what part of AMOLED saves power if you are showing anything but the color black on the screen?
>>58805749
Probably to remove another component that can go wrong. Some people keep their phones for 3+ years, it's very possible that dust/dead skin cells/etc get in the button mechanisms and it either breaks, or stops working like it should. It's also easier to waterproof phones without a physical home button.

My understanding is that because AMOLED doesn't use a backlight, it is more efficient at generating light.

If the screen's entirely black then it's either not drawing any power or virtually drawing no power, compared to LCD where whether the screen is full black or full white the backlight is just as bright. Due each pixel being its won source of light the black levels are incredible, in darkness I can't tell where my screen ends and the bezel begins when the borders are black

IGZO

easier for manufacturers and devs.
More screen space.
also, this:>>58805897

Because battery technology is shit.

REEEEE
Ur not supposed to actually use your amoled screen.
Of course it will burn in
You're supposed to buy a new phone every two years.
