/OP/ here, I'm no socialist.
Don't you guys get it?

The ULA you sign for any proprietary prosthesis is a potential trap to force you into servitude. You're physically bound by its rules. It's like being imprisoned. How you get out of that ULA without violating it depends on the terms you agreed to. The people who wrote it and manufactured your parts do not have your best interests in my mind. They're not evil and they probably didn't originally plan on fucking you over but they're part of system that has shareholders that need to be kept happy. And, in my above scenario, violating the ULA means death.

Also, going by my initial post, if you're willing to pay the equivalent of 100 years of servititude to not die, you might even be willing to pay a 1000.

Do you really want to end up as some futuristic digital chain gang worker, just because some corp decided using your mind and the mind of others like you is cheaper than paying for the license of some AI?

Go open source prosthesis.
You're going to want to own your own goddamn body.
Otherwise you'll just be an immortal slave.
>>
>>58804396
>>Get offered a chance to for prosthesis to go 60-80% cyborg.
>turn it down
>>
>>58805045
Fair enough, but your hypothetical never gave the chance to "go open source" until after the fact, and just get given the opportunity to get a prosthetic body in exchange for around ~400 years of potential "not-slavery." Open-source immortality was never mentioned until the end. Of course when given the choice between Product A and Product A (but it's free; no strings attached), the later is the better choice.
>>
>>58804396
>>>so get ready for a 100 years of Japanese salary man type servitude to pay for your new prosthesis (that will come with other strings attached that could theoritically enslave you for 300 years or more)

Why does this remind me of the naive decision to go to a 50k/year school 7 years ago?
>>
>>58805129
At least you got something out of it, right?
>>
>>58805013
>will my eyes be programmed to show me ads all the time? and will there be adblock?

You'll probably have some limited freedom in what you install on your paid parts. You might even be able to download something akin to an Adblocker.
Again, it's unlikely the setup you find yourself is purposely meant to exploit you - it just evolved that way.

>>58805045
>Otherwise you'll just be an immortal slave.

And before you say that this is pointless in a society so technologically advance that it's practically post scarcity, non of us know what the economy of the future will be like.

If corporate AI are running the global economy in the future then they might be optimized to obtain the maximum value out of all the possible resource available to them in the solar system. You'd accidentally end being a shitty victim of some micro-economic modelling that dooms you to hundreds of years of servitude.

Get open source organs.
>>
>>58805103
>Fair enough, but your hypothetical never gave the chance to "go open source" until after the fact, and just get given the opportunity to get a prosthetic body in exchange for around ~400 years of potential "not-slavery." Open-source immortality was never mentioned until the end.

Yeah, you're right, I didn't mention that until the end.
I'm just kind of assuming that the tech in question will be developed/discovered/copied by several different entities.
So, hopefully, a free alternative is developed/available to early adopters.

And if not, well I guess anything is better than non-existence.
>>
I guess there would be enough resources available to manufacture your own (opensource) gear. However these would miss some of the nice/essential features of the corporate parts.

Corporations could not go full slavery mode because that wuold mean people would rather use shitty open-source and be free.

>I guess there would be enough resources available to manufacture your own (opensource) gear. However these would miss some of the nice/essential features of the corporate parts.

Yeah, I don't foresee this being a wide-spread problem once better alternatives available/developed in the long term. For example, why buy an electric car from a manufacturer that requires you pay a lot of money for a software tweak to unlock its full potential if there are better options - unless it's the only game in town at the moment and you're desperate.

I just wonder how many early adapters might get accidentally screwed by unforeseen long term consequences.

Save up 100x the cost of any procedure before you do it. Get that shit in high interest accounts. You're gonna wanna have the money in advance to pay for future upgrades, and spend those couple decades here and there earning more and more and more.
So many people will be happy just porning it up all day every day that the menial shit will soon get handed off.
If some ai can do the job just as well then I'm fucked, but weird thought.
Rather than little helper bots being powered by ARTIFICIAL ai, imagine them actually being controlled by digitized people trying to earn a living. What's 10c an hour when you don't need to sleep and will live for centuries?
It's not that much of a novel concept, but imagining myself as one of those bots is.

50 years is a long time for stuff to develop and there are people right now who want to build the stuff being discussed.

At the very least, people in their 80s/90s will live far better quality life.

Also, if Alzheimer's/dementia/cardiovascular shit/cancer is neutralized then you could last longer than most people do today before something kills you.

>no one in their right mind is this fucking stupid

If you could live to your 100s but be in the same shape as the average 70 something year old (in terms of quality of life), I think a portion of the population would go for it.

Biggest problem would be being a person from another era living in the future. You and your views/beliefs would be completely outdated. You would be a stranger in a strange land.
>>
>>58808195
>50 years is a long time for stuff to develop and there are people right now who want to build the stuff being discussed.
body modifications and cyborgs are already a reality. not to the extent of the OP, but realistically i'd be dumbfounded if this shit doesn't start seeing some serious funding/gains within the next 15 years.
>>
>>58808195
I mean, what has really changed in the past decade? The world still pretty much looks the same as it did in 2007. We only get another four or five of those decades before we all start to die off. If we start from 2000 and divide into eighths all the technological progress we need to see for OP's world to be a reality by 2080, and consider that we've already used up nearly two of them, do you really think we're on track?
>>
>>58808643

A literal nigger who wasted his life expecting on others.
Like, what do you even plan on doing for 100 years?
Fap?
>>
Human life becomes worthless AND useless in a advanced capitalist economy, everything you can contribute to that economy can be done faster and cheaper by a machine, someday a AI will own the world and end humanity lease, so better hope for a economic paradigm shift.
