I'd get a $500 laptop with the longest battery life I possibly can.

It'll run linux and will mostly be used for browsing/working/researching while I'm away from home.

Any MSI or ASUS laptop with a 1050ti or 1060. Look at reviews, see what people have to say. No one here is going to be more specific than that because the only laptops /g/entoomen have are thinkpads and umpcs. Good luck. I'm glad all my gf wants is a Ps4.
