What's are the loudest parts of a modern desktop computer? Mine's still humming like it's the early 2000s, which kinda throws me for a loop given my laptop doesn't make any noise at all.

>modern OEM
processor fan (heatsink/fan are usually tragically undersized)
video card fan, if present
case fans
>modern custom-built with good parts
HDD, potentially
case fans, if not PWM controlled or connected to a speed limiter
video card, when under load
>historically
HDDs - if you have an older HDD (pre-2010) in your build, it may be noisy as fuck when seeking
processor fans
case fans
PSU fans
any fan smaller than 80mm
optical drive

line your PC up with whats there on a part by part basis and figure it out

Get a PSU that doesn't spin up unless under heavy load. CPU fan should be high RPM Noctua, and all other fans should be low RPM Noctuas.

CPU fan = GPU fan > case fan > PSU fan > hard disks

My computer sounds like the elevator from Goldeneye when it's idling and I can't hear anything but the videogames when I'm playing videogames. Wear headphones if it bothers you that much.
