60Hz looks choppy especially during panning scenes could overclock my monitor to 72Hz but don't want to risk damaging it and I don't know whether it would skip frames making it moot point.

AH-IPS will have slightly better viewing angles and color accuracy, but worse blacks and worse contrast ratio versus the AMVA. Personally, having both a VA and an IPS side by side, for movie content I prefer the VA for the darker, richer blacks. IPS' have gotten better with blacks, but they still have that IPS glow that bugs me where the blacks can sometimes take on a purple-ish tint.

This assumes all else is equal with the panels, which it probably is not, but I would choose VA technology for animu if all things are equal.
