Literally the best user interface for any non-PC machine ever made. It's a goddamn shame that Sony Entertainment (of Murica) got rid of it for the PS4.
>>
>>58777800
And the Vita. LiveArea (more specifically the lack of even a choice to have XMB) is my only gripe with the it.
>>
>>
>>58777101
I wish the default Kodi interface was more like the PS3s

>>58778924
I kind of miss when things had more hierarchy. Maybe it was a few extra mouse clicks, but at least you could usually use common sense to fumble through the menus when you were looking for something
>>
XMB was nice but I hated how Sony just kept adding icons(ads) for irrelevant services to it. Most of them didn't even try to fit with the theme either.

I know the PlayStation was called a PSX, you retards. But when talking about the product that is literally officially called a PSX, it's retarded to purposely obfuscate things by calling the PlayStation by the name it shares with the aforementioned DVR.
>>
>>58785796
Nobody else is confused but you. You act like it's hard to tell them apart.
>>
>>58785796
hey autist. Its easier to call it PSX since theres also the PsOne (smaller nicer model).
Are you also the kind of autist that gets trigger when they say

I never understood the hate for Unity. No one can ever tell me why they hate it or what it does to piss them off so much. The only thing I hear complaints about is the amazon shit which has been reduced just to a weblink now since you can easily get rid of amazon searches.

>Its easier to call it PSX since theres also the PsOne (smaller nicer model)
He was calling the PlayStation a PSX specifically because I was talking about the actual PSX, how about you read the damned thread before you decide I'm the one in the wrong. See >>58779120 >>58779242

this was such a cool thing back in the day with CFW, tons of homebrew software and you could run ISOs and do pretty much anything with it

loved that thing

PS3's XMB was the shit and still my favorite console UI, it's so simple yet so good.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=XrossMediaBar&oldid=689914099

here are some details I remember of it:
>background color changed each month
>background went dark at midnight
>wallpaper support
>you could use the PS3's web browser to download and install themes.
>icons had chromatic aberration
>you could control the menu with a keyboard or even a mouse
>when changing the timezone, a bigass world showed up in the background and it turned at the timezone you were selecting.
>the sparkles in the background moved at the direction you were moving the controller

I loved my ps3 mostly because of the little details Sony put on it, there's a shitton of features/details I'm forgetting but I can tell you for sure that the XMB is a very well-made UI
>>
>>58777101
You literally named the only good thing about ps3. Wish I didn't fell for cellâ„¢ meme.
>>
>>58790233
>best controller
>easy peasy HDD upgrades
>works with same AV cable every preceding PlayStation used
>free online play
>Blu-ray playback, one disc games for games that needed 3 discs on Xbox 360
>older models had media card readers and a fuckload of USB ports
>initially had OtherOS
>initially had backwards compatibility with all previous consoles (and all models are capable of playing PlayStation games)
Yeah, XMB was totally the PS3's only pro.
>>
>>58786769
Certainly scads better than the current ad-infested bullshit.
>>
>>58790065
I think it looked alright in 7, but the buttons should have been flatter with the exception of the start menu.

I started one once, mostly to recreate Lakkas UI on android. But I spent just an evening on it and stopped when I would have to filter apps by categories / display roms for emulators.
>>
>>58790398
it's like microsoft hires real UI designers for the first versions of things, then hand it off to interns to "maintain and update" them
>>
I seriously don't see what is supposed to be so great about the XMB. It's so much fucking scrolling it is seriously ridiculous.

You can customize it with themes and icon packs. Autohide and I'm pretty sure you can remove it entirely, but don't quote me.
