Depending where you live, you might be able to find somewhere to rent one.

If you can't modify (you can't with that model) the internal LUT, don't bother.
It's slow and fugly, but adjust by eye.

Bullshit. Spectrometer is actually worse than decent colorimeters like i1 Display Pro.

Spyder5 is better than all the previous models, but it's still worse than i1 Display Pro and their price is almost identical, so why the fuck not.
But again, if you can't program the internal LUT, don't bother.

Oh i tried adjusting by eye but I suck at it. To my eyes the only color that i can tell that is different is white. One monitor is paper white the other one has a "warmer" white, maybe yellowish but not really. I only see it when I compare the whites directly.

I haven't look into it but I thought when you have a calibration tool you use them monthly? Renting them every month seems pretty stupid.

Look around eBay, you might be able to find older models for cheaps. I got an i1 Display2 and a Spyder2 Pro for about 20$ total. I like the GretagMacbeth/X-Rite one better though, as its more Linux-compatible.

As far as I understand it, brightness of monitors deteriorates over time and the colors change thanks to that. But that's just google and a couple of youtube videos trying to sell calibration tools.

Yeah, you might not even notice it.
I've never calibrated a monitor though, so you could just rent one to begin with and if you notice them beginning to change within a month just buy one.

If you are in EU then just buy one, open carefully, calibrate monitor with it and then send back to store.
