WHEN WILL IT END??

It wont
There's no reason for it to be cheaper to get an ssd.
>>
>>58752128
people said the same thing about panel TVs vs CRT
>>
>>58752147

But you also forget, there was still a large number of people still using CRT until about 2-3 years ago. SSDs are a relatively new thing on the consumer market, and for the most part they don't deliver the sheer amount of storage HDDs can (without going to prohibitively high prices).

At some point quality flash storage will be dense enough to provide HDD-level storage at SSD-level speeds on HDD-level prices, but that's at least several years off.
>>
>>58752190
>large number of people still using CRT until about 2-3 years ago
More like 5+ years ago, I could hear CRT whine walking past people's houses.
>>
Never. Massive 10TB storage drives will always be the best choice for hoarders. It'll take at least a decade for them to disappear from the market.

The real question is: Who cares? Most people do not need more than 500gb of storage. Consumers are using more and more data every year but the personal storage requirements are going down all the time. Music and videos are streamed from cloud, images are saved on the cloud and even software is used over the internet these days.
>>
>>58752108
It depends on what happens in the next couple of years. Hard drive manufacturers are struggling to get much further than 12TB. Seagate has promised up to 20TB in the next few years but at the same time plans on releasing a 60TB SSD. As far as raw capacity goes hard drives may be dead. As larger and larger SSDs are produced the price will fall.
>>
>>58752233
>Most people do not need more than 500gb of storage.
This is where SSDs are starting to kill hard drives. The number of SSDs deployed by OEMs is steadily rising while HDDs fall.

that's a good point. up until recently hardly any of the consumer level laptops/desktops in Best Buy/Staples/Box Stores came with SSDs preinstalled.
>>
>>58752108
You know, they have special controllers you can control with your face so you don't have to waggle your chin to play your RPGs.
>>
What is the downside to SSDs aside from their price? I've heard something about them wearing out quicker when constantly rewritten
>>
>>58752808
A decent SDD usually guaranties between 150 and 300 TB written before it shit the bed.

So for normal use it's not really a problem.
>>
>>58752277
>no labels
>>
>>58752881

How does that compare to an HDD?
>>
>>58752950
an HDD will more than likely suffer a mechanical failure before hitting those numbers, so while it theoretically would outlast an SSD, it ain't so in practice
>>
>>58752881
that's only until the memory fails. there are a host of other failpoints that are more common that memory failures.
>>
Even a $150 850 500 GB is fucking still affordable as fuck. Stay poor, faggot.
>>
>>58753020
For instance?
>>
which has better $/gbps?
>>
>>58753059
controller failure
power failure
>>
>>58753012
Ive seen HDD's with 80000h uptime and they still working with no badblocks, so i dont know.
>>
OP is right you idiots. There is a chance for a technology that is shittier to be more expensive. But, it will die of course, nobody or very few will buy it.

e.g. look at CRTs. They are more expensive. And they are more shit.

And almost nobody wants them if they are on sale.
>>
>>58754000
>And they are more shit.

Bad opinions, oh boy
>>
>>58754062

You fell for meme. If you need a better monitor, stop using shitty TNs for gaymers and office workers.
>>
>>58753020
Same with hdds
>>
>>58752881
and will lose data in under a year if not used
good for short term stuff
not for anything long term

>>58753012
not true, sure consumer hard drives are shit but enterprise last longer than any ssds in both usage and longevity
>>
>>58754277
>and will lose data in under a year if not used

Who the fuck is going to buy a SSD for data archiving?
>>
>>58752108
at least get the kid a carpet or something, goddamn
>>
>>58754277
I actually had my ssd off for well over 18 months in a storage building so I know your full of shit.

Being a "gaming addict" has a negative connotation, unless you're crippled. Then it's brave

Being a gaming addict with two functional arms is like being a slut. Being a gaming addict with no limbs is like being a chad.

Ive been using ssd since 2011 and it still works
>>
>>58752881
That's on a high quality SSD (1% of the total maybe and none of the ones that come with your laptop) and only theoretical.

In the real world SSDs last a lot less than HDDs.

Anything equal or better than a 500 GB 850 EVO has that.

If he were born in Sparta he would've been discarded off a cliff. What's his quality of life like?
>>
>>58754518
In the modern world it's probably great

there's a good chance of there being decent prosthetics for him without his life too
>>

>rolling around on a floor with no carpet

I don't know about that, anon.

>>58754554
You can't really use prosthetics if you don't have at least a stump to attach it on.
>>
>>58754493
The 850 Evo IS a high quality SSD.

I just said your opinion was shit. CRTs are awesome, I just don't own one anymore because my desk size wont allow for one.

No, it's like being a burden to your family and friends who have to entertain the idea that you're not a worthless piece of shit who probably can't even play the most simple games and should probably just be euthanized.

For what purpose?
>>
>>58752108

I'd be more interested in improvements in the writecycles/reliability department of SSD's more than capacity.
>>
>>58755973
Because throwing your kids off cliffs means the strong kids don't have enough of a society around them to help them against an enemy that doesn't rely on conventional warfare
>>
>>58755360
Yeah about the same as being a slut.
>>
>>58756000
Sparta was literally one of the longest lasting Greek states that lived well beyond the rest.
>>
Holy shit, i want to give that kid arms.
>>
>>58756000

lol, ok.
>>
>>58755255
Or a title... Technically speaking.
>>
>>58756651
Limbless kid can develop nuclear weapons and shit, ya know?
>>
>>58756758
Yes. Let's spend an exorbitant amount of cash on some human Fleshlight to pay for carers, tutors and specialised equipment to just enable them to compete academically with normal students. I'm glad that money isn't going to help normal children succeed but instead gambling on the off chance that the retard without limbs may have a superior brain even though children with severe physical defects are more likely to have mental problems too.

Feels good, bros. I might even stop using my 2TB HDD altogether. I only use it for game ISOs I'll probably never install or play again.
>>
>>58755855
Yeah, sparta isn't around because they didn't maintain enough disabled children.

Oh wait, that's not why.
