I want to have a back up server
A place where I can dump tar.gzs over rsync ssh. It will only be turned on when I. Doing my backups.
What's OS is the best for me?
Windows 10
if it's gonna be something you can flip on and off because it's two feet away you might as well use an external hdd instead

Right.. I have an internal ide drive though.
Also are usb transfers faster than ethernet network transfers?

Depends. But the connection type is far less likely to affect your speeds than the hardware it's connecting is.

Ok
Any recommend for a ide drive enclosure to connect via USB?
>>58744628
anything that has both ide and usb3
usb2 stuff is even cheaper, but will limit you to around 45MB/s

>ide
Why

because that's what op asked for
You need to buy a Mac and a Time Machine NAS

For backup any durable storage is fine, even cloud ones if you encrypt before sending.
