A local server for the house or a homebrew router.
What's a more worthwhile project?
former
latter
None. Don't be a sperg. Homes only need a basic modem router and they're done.

Better Idea: spend quality time with kitty before it gets old and dies.
Make a router without any limits on the number of SSIDs it can broadcast, then create a few hundred copies of your neighbors' SSIDs. For maximum keks they should each run on a separate virtual interface with the same MAC-address as the original router.

Every day we stray further from God's light
If you have no experience then a local server because you may fuck up a lot of shit using clean GNU/Linux or BSD as a router.

it can be the same. ....so

A homebrew router which can be used as server.
I would just get an Intel Atom Board and a wifi antenna.
The box will get hot and your kitten can sleep on it.
