Hey /g/
friend wanted to throw away a laptop figured I'd salvage it:
>128GB SSD
>4GB RAM
>i5 1.5Ghz
>slick and portable as heck
>Ubuntu 14.04 installed
>no working USB ports
>like literally 0 working USB ports
any suggestions on what I do with it?
Plex server.

interesting... but I live in a small apartment and I just watch movies/TV in my monitor

they don't work because the serial pins got bent out of place (on both USB ports)... like somone decided to shove a usb at a wrong angle and pushed the pins back....I tried to use tweezers to align them back... snapped 1 pin from 1 of the port, the other 1 still refuses to work.
I will have to disassemble and replace the ports myself...but that's too much work for something so old... it's a Vaio SVP13213CYB

if the ethernet still works you can install pi-hole to get rid of ads on everything connected to your network.

no Ethernet port sadly...but I do have a ethernet-usb plug...once I/if I get the damn USB working....

He could boot iso from LAN, anon.

It could have been installed before the ports broke. Might explain why his friend wanted to throw it out

doesn't look too old, since it has a m.2 ssd slot.
no onboard LAN is a bummer.
you could get a docking station and use usb that way.
or install a new OS from the memory card slot.
