What does /g/ think of the current 'Material' or flat design language in modern OS?

Makes the old design look like eye cancer.

Lazy shit like that can fuck right off

Lets people get to the point of the app rather than wasting time doing graphic design that won't be appreciated
>oh wow that's one beautiful upload button
At first I loved it. Made lots of apps look professional out of the box, and most things usually look shitty as programmers tend to be terrible at GUIs. It also made things unified and standardized in one way or another.
However in the end it's lazy and bland. It lacks personality. I'm waiting for another wave of skeuomorphism, especially when it comes to icons.
It's no so bad. MD support libraries make UI/UX easy to do which means I can hire good programmers instead of UI/UX scammers who only ever add bloat to the app. Only UI/UX hipsters think it's a bad thing.
no soul

Only people without taste tout this piece of shit movement as "progressive" and "better in every way except we can't explain why"
It's like contemporary art. A sham.

Has there ever been a mainstream / popular UI scheme that people have praised?
Feels like things are always being shat on, then things change, then people think back at how good the old thing was.

Yes, the current one. Only a small subset of contrarians on /g/ dislike Material.

>skeuomorphism
It just takes too much time. Things are moving quickly from before the '60s to now.
Looks better than the glossy Windows 7/OS X of yesteryear

just don't like the icons
i can rarely get an idea of what they are just by looking at them, which is a complete failure for an icon

>Has there ever been a mainstream / popular UI scheme that people have praised?
i don't think i've seen anyone who complained about the windows 95 UI
harder to recognize fucking icons and understand what they mean
i'm not going to disagree that it's more pleasing to the eye, but it's also inconveniencing, especially when I let other people use my phone

beautiful

I'm still waiting for the next version where they do nav and status bar like this, without sharp transition between colors. It's 2blocky4me, really sucks out the air from the ui
I don't really mind. It looks good sometimes.
