Are miniITX builds any good, /g/? I'll be moving soon, but

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Are miniITX builds any good, /g/? I'll be moving soon, but I still want play "MUH GAYMZZ", so I would probably need a compact PC. And Evolv ITX looks nice.
>>
They're neat, but remember you are paying a premium for the compact size and you're giving up on some potential expandability.
>>
They are ok.

The problem is the longevity: If anything on your mainboard breaks a few years down the line or you simply need some new feature you're SOL.
>>
>I'm moving so I need a meme-itx case

Literally "I take antidepressants for muscle disorder" argument. You are a ricer faggot who wants the latest ricer faggot trash.
>>
>>58681128
If miniITX cases suck and not worth changing from full ATX size, then I won't take it. Chill anon, chill.

They're great, but you pay more for less. People talk about higher temps, but I don't experience thermal throttling even while overclocked. If it fits your budget, the Ncase M1 is the meme case to get.
>>
>Purposely gimping expandability, component selection, hand-room, and airflow because of "muh fuudbrint"
>All especially at a premium

I tried doing it with a small Lian-Li micro-ATX case. It probably would have been worse with mini-ITX. It's a fucking nightmare to maintain and dust because everything's cramped tighter than a two-year old's asshole. I had a middle-high-end GPU, and the thing would always overheat in the cramped space.

Don't fucking bother, OP. Stop giving into the mini-ITX meme, and get an ATX-sized computer.
>>
Just get a full-size case. Unless you're moving constantly or living in a broom closet, it's not going to be that much of a hassle to have, plus you won't be sacrificing potential expandability in the future.
>>
Small mATX case is where it's at. Fuck only having one PCIe device in your computer. That's too limiting.
>>
>>58681075
No, don't do it. If you want a small PC, get an NUC or laptop or Mac Mini. If you want upgradabiility and shit, just make a normal PC.
>>
>>58681181
stupid meme, mATX builds are rarely over $20 more expensive than atx builds.
>>
I traded in some compactness for utility. I never needed additional PCI(-E) expansion slots, so I bought my first mITX, finally.

>fits a thick 280mm radiator
>fits graphics card of any size
>reservoir in place of HDD drive bay
>1HDD/1SSD bracket in single 5.25 bay
>hot swap bay for additional drives
>great thermals
No regrets. The Zalman M1 is awesome!

>If you want a small PC, get an NUC or laptop or Mac Mini

What a retarded statement. Why would you buy a NUC when you can build an ITX system just BARELY larger for less money, that will perform better and will actually let you change the CPU and have a proper chipset. Pic related, paid less than the cheapest Intel NUC barebone.

Cooler Master makes some small cube cases that fit ATX boards

I built this.
Got a mini 970 in it.
Take it as carry-on when I fly.
TSA always thinks its an amp.
It's a little tricky actually building the thing but other than that no unforeseeable faults.

noice, I've been eyeballin the F1CWS which is the same case but without the optical drive. Streacom makes some really beautiful and sturdy cases.

currently waiting for Ryzen APUs to launch so I can build it, hopefully there'll be some under 45W
>>
>>58681431
>ITX system just BARELY larger
ITX board is already 50% larger in each direction than the entire NUC.

>Why would you buy a NUC when you can build an ITX system just BARELY larger for less money
That case you posted has twice the length and width of an NUC.
>>
>>58681717
How much are they in your country? Here in Germany the one I got was 40€ but the same one without the optical drive slot costs like 80€.

I use a passively cooled SOC so mine is 100% quiet, very comfy seedbox/HTPC.

>>58681731
That's not true. Maybe you are thinking about mATX.
>>
>>58681731
>>58681756
even if this was true, what difference does it make? neither can fit in your pants pocket but both are small around to carry around in any bag. meanwhile one has thermal issues on idle and terrible price/performance. guess which one.
>>
>>58681576
Is that the Lian Li case anon? I want to do a build with one, can you tell me about it?
>>
Why would an impending move be relevant to the size of your PC? Are you such a manlet that you can't carry a mid tower to your car?

The practical advantages of ITX are slim. The disadvantages are numerous. Just go ATX or mATX and stop being a faggot.
>>
>>58681759
Not available anywhere in my country, so I'm going to have to order them from the UK for about 80€
I don't mind though

>>58681756
it really hasn't, I'm not sure we're talking about the same things here
>>
>>58681787
20cm x 20cm is not small enough to be worth it. You might as well just get a mini-tower and dispense with the trouble.

>meanwhile one has thermal issues on idle and terrible price/performance. guess which one.
Both
>>
>>58681817
>The disadvantages are numerous
when will this meme end
higher temps is literally the only disadvantage nowadays

I would never ever go for a ATX or god forbid full ATX.
It just to me looks so outdated, huge.
Small and powerful is where it is and where it will be moving
let the little kids get full tower with all them leds and 16 fans

as for your worry, if you are not retarded you should be able to assemble it without problem
even though phantek calls its ITX, really more in mATX land, comfortable room for everyhthing without the need for extensive planing

small cases if well done dont have higher temps, they actually have potential for better temps as theres no dead air sitting, unmoving
imagine difference between having small box with a huge fan on one side blowing air through the box, and having large room with that same size fan blowing air in... but of course some cramp it up and obstract airflow, others use terribly designed cases like cooler masters ITX boxes..

As for people crying about potential expandability and component selection.. its really laughable argument, theres lots of stuff to choose from.

Sure
Has room for 2 laptop sized disk drives (2.5's?) under the gpu and room for a third where the optical drive would sit. If you choose to get an optical drive you need a small one.
The gpu has to be an itx form factor, a sfx psu and, a low profile CPU fan.
It comes with a decent fan in the front front but I took it out and put in a 140 Noctua. Kinda improvised there since the original was a 120mm with a cage to stop cables getting hit.
Almost bought the Thermaltake core v1 but glad I didn't cause there is no plastic on the case and its all aluminium. Great build quality.

well if you need multi GPU and 100 hard drives, you obviously wouldn't build an itx computer. this is like saying everybody should own a pic related when all they need is a mini.
>>
>>58682114
If you simply plan your build you can avoid most of that.
Except for the pci slots.
But If you are looking to build an ITX you obviously not going to be running a gpu with a wireless card and audio card or sli or all that other shit.

>>
>mATX builds may be slightly harder
>Cooling won't make much of a difference in most cases
>Lots of mATX cases still fit massive GPUs
>mATX is slightly more expensive than ATX

Looking at how my current build basically is pretty much empty (1 big GPU, a few tiny SSDs) my next build might be mATX. I don't need a HDD or ODD anyway.
>>
>>58682505
>mATX is slightly more expensive than ATX
dont feel that way to me
and on the other hand mATX mobos are cheaper than ATX
>>
They're fine as long as you're good with only one PCIe slot. I just built one, I've never felt so restricted working on a desktop before. I wish mini-DTX was more popular.
>>
>>58682706
What does the /g/eneral user need PCIe for? One GPU is enough. I currently have a PCIe SSD, but I could get an M.2 SSD instead.

that's a pretty stupid idea. probably comparable to using a gt220 as a physx-card with your 1080 (i know the gt220 cant do physx, it's just to clarify the point). you're likely better off just using the PCIe card.

There is literally no downside, you pay the same for your mobo, probably the same on your two sticks of 8gb

you get more then enough CPU cooling from a big block like in that case or a 280mm Kraken in the Manta ITX

Don't fucking do it it's too far.

Went from a thermaltake core v21 to this to a fractal nano s.

The nano s kicks the shit out of all in temps, sound and looks.
I wanted the node 202 to work for me so well but it was loud as fuck and my temps were unreasonable. The build experience in the define nano s was loads better than the others too.
