Nice dubs and no duh
>been saying this shit for years
>people don't believe me
>IT depts everywhere still enforce shitty AVs on all users and somehow still get ransomware problems
well at least I know I'm not the only one who thinks AV is snake oil
>>58677044
How much do you get paid per post for arse technica?
Can I make money referring readers also, and where do I sign up?

AV in the corporate world is more about ass-covering than security. It's so you don't get sued if you get hacked, because you can say "look! we ran this industry-standard AV!" The fact that it doesn't work too well is an open secret.
>>58677044
>asstechnica
>a slow, resource-hog AV with shit detection rates like Windows Defender
>good
If I gotta go with a botnet so I can watch hassle-free porn it sure as fuck won't be incompetent garbage by Microsoft.
>>58677114
antivirus has always been snake oil for the most part. i forget what documentary it was about mcafee the company and john mcafee, and how he lied to scare people/companies into buying his product.
>>58678647
At least, those incompetent engies know about their system bit more than polak AV vendor does.
>>58677044
>you should uninstall your antivirus software immediately—unless you use Microsoft's Windows Defender, which is apparently okay
>This wouldn't necessarily be a problem if AV makers made secure software, but for the most part they don't (except for Windows Defender, because Microsoft is "generally competent," according to O'Callahan).
>This also means that you should stop using Windows 7 or 8 and update to Windows 10.
Nice msoft shilling there.
>the continuing popularity of AV software
Where did they pull it from?
>>58678883
How does that make Windows Defender or Windows 10 better? It doesn't.
>>58677193
