Why are not using Chrome OS on your laptop?

Its seriously the best, and lightest OS I ever used. I have a few older laptops that I mostly use for browsing the web from the comfort of my own bed. These serve no other purpose other than simple browsing.
I have been running Windows 10 on my 9 year old model, it ran fine. I tried Arch on it, Mint, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and some other distros, and nothing runs anywhere near as fast, or smooth, Chrome OS. Not to mention the best looking GUI I've seen in a while. The laptop boots in 4 seconds, and shutdowns even faster. Virtually no issues on the aging hardware. Its essentially just a Chrome browser.

I rarely see it discussed here. Everyone is always asking about the best light distro to use, so why not give Chrome OS a try.

Its basically Chromium version of Chrome.

Tablet OS, do not want

Any linux distro will be way faster anyway

Can't run shitty indie games on steam, pass.

it's not optimised for tablets in any way

I have a chromebox and actually like Chrome OS, but the novelty wore off after a couple of years, especially since it was announced my model wouldn't be compatible with Android apps. Now I wiped Chrome OS and run Windows 10 on it.

well, if you read OPs post about using the device for basic internet use, a simpler OS might be nice.

I'm fine with windows 7 on my machine, and even though I dont use it for much else, I'm not gonna waste my time with Botnet OS

Even with basic internet use, not having access to a proper file manager and basic tools would be severely limiting. You'd either have to fuck around with it until you end up with what is essentially a Linux distro, or try to find a "web app" replacement for everything. A device made entirely for the purpose of being a web browser is just.. weird. Maybe if you're 40 and only use it to browse Facebook, but even THEN having a proper OS to fall back on would be useful. I mean I keep finding my Android phone limiting, and that's with root access and a package manager and file manager on par with Windows Explorer. And I literally only use it to browse porn in bed and listen to music.

Chrome gobbles up memory. I switched to Opera, and it has been much better.

yeah... not gonna happen

This. I really don't understand how anyone can buy a chromebook with a straight face.
>>
>>58677169
Because you actually can find a good replacement for most things you want to do when you get android apps and cheap chromebooks are much faster than cheap windows desktops.
>>

>a good replacement for most things you want to do
I very much doubt that.
>>
>>58673272
it has a file manager. You can use Android apps on modern Chromebooks. Unless you need specialised software there's no reason why it can't be a daily driver for most people.

What a joy

Becuasei it's gentoo running chrome.
I'd rather have the gentoo part and just pick the browser for myself
