A while ago I used some USB/CD bootable thing that lets you select which device to boot from.
So you'd boot from this USB/CD first and then you'd get something like pic related.

I forgot what it's called. Does anyone know what I mean?

(I know it sounds stupid and that I could just use the mobo boot chooser, but that doesn't work properly.)

this is a boot device selection menu.

It appears if you press a specific key after you turn on your computer. F9 or F11 usually, varies for every mobo.
>>
>>58661177
That's the exact thing mobos give you.
>>
Mash some buttons on the keyboard at the staring splash screen to access this menu, if it doesn't exist, go to your BIOS settings and enable it, if you have a motherboard from 1960, change the boot order manually or make a plop Linux CD.

Is this b8?

If not, please read the OP.

I seem to recall plop

Actually I think Plop is what I was looking for.
Can it be put on USB or does it need to be a CD?
>>
>>58661235
Whatever your motherboard supports booting from.
>>
>>58661235
It must be a floppy or you're fucked
>>
>>58661226
yeah, gotta hit the coffe cup already.

it's PLOP, like others said.

>>58661235
The official PLOP zip has plop for
-floppy
-CD .iso
-binary formats to be started from grub/lilo/windows boot manager/other boot managers
>>
>>58661257
>>58661293
yeah, plpmkboot.exe (on windows) should do it
>>
OP here. Plop works alright, but is there something better?
What I don't like:
1. no drive names (labels), it's just HDA, HDB...
2. there seems to be a limit to the number of drives/partitions displayed
3. drives plugged in when Plop is running aren't detected
