Alright /g/
I'm a starving student looking to buy a second drive for my laptop. Right now it has a 120GB SSD. Is a hybrid drive a good solution, or should I go SSD or HDD?
ddoes laptop have msata?
Save up 25 a week. Get a 525 gb ssd after 6 weeks.

The fault of SSD's is that if your SSD goes bad, the whole thing goes bad at once and it basically isn't rescue-able in any form.
HDD's on the other hand, usually only fail mechanically-- extremely rare chance that it's due to the actual platters degrading, and because of this the data is actually rescue-able.
Combine both, and you get the retardation known as a SSHD.
If the SSD segment (stores your most used files on the SSHD) goes bad, R.I.P. your most used files, lul.
So in short:
Use a SSD for your OS Installation and most-used apps to increase boot times.
Get a 500GB or 1TB 7200RPM laptop HDD to store your images, videos, photos, and gaymes.

I fell for the sshd meme. It was a bad decision. Just get ssd . Unless you want 2tb

Hybrids suck. Go HDD if poor.

I don't get this meme
has anyone here actually ever had an SSD fail? Ever?
I've been using SSDs exclusively for a few years now, no problems whatsoever so far. And I sure as shit would have had at least 1 HDD fail by now if I had bought HDDs instead of SSDs.
get a chink ssd
If you have a SSD then your only option is to get a bigger SSD just save for weeks on end you can do it.
I live in a very expenise country and saved for 20 weeks for my first 120Gb SSD that was 2 years ago.
gee the times they be changing !

You can replace your optical with a drive caddy, and install a regular HD in there.
120GB main is kinda small, even if you dont store shit on it. think about upgrading it to like a 512gb, and then either selling yours, or sticking it in another PC, or a PS3 or something.

What OS?
If windows, run diskcleanup and remove all previous OS upgrades
Disable hibernate cmd, powercfg -h off
turn down your page file to half of your RAM
get a tool like SpaceMonger to get a visualization of your files, and delete shit you dont need.
