Are you serious you can't find software while you have names of it?
So yes mpv can read YouTube video with yt dl on every OS. Go check the arch wiki page about mpv it's full of stuff.

I use something called livestream. It works on Windows but I don't remember where I found it, on github maybe.
It have full options including choices of the players. I use mpv
