I was reading online that I can use toothpaste as a substitute for thermal paste.

Does anyone know the best brand to use?
>>
Just get a $1 pack of paste from ebay
>>
I can't decide between Crest and Colgate. I'm applying it to a server, and the client will be mad if it's down too long. Any responses are appreciated.

>>
>>58642300
that's too expensive, I already have toothpaste on hand.

Toothpaste will dry out quicker than proper heat paste

Every computer store should have that

Stop fucking around, especially if it's for a client
>>

just about anything works as thermal paste, even mayonnaise. Organics break down quickly and dont transfer heat well. Tooth paste breaks down and turns to powder. Dansdata did a cpu paste experiment with a variety of compounds like this a few years back.

Sensodyne. For sensitive CPUs.
>>
>>58642286
damn son, just get some cheap $2 thermal paste
>>
>>58642286
Dont be a fucking jew and buy some paste.
>>
>>58642286
choose the one with extra calcium and added silica powder.
>>
>>58642286
How poor are you?
>>
Get some with mouthwash included. Helps fight viruses.

it would be cheaper if you killed yourself

You can get Arctic Silver from Newegg for just $6.

EVGA

Enjoy your minty fresh CPU.
>>
>>58642313
then why do you ask what brand to use?

>>58642307
You provide a shit service... And who puts thermal paste on a server? If you can pull down the server long enough to reapply thermal paste then it can't be anything important. You don't need to do that shit. Data centers never reapply thermal paste on servers no matter how old they are.

Thermal paste is mostly for gaymers that wants to see the temperature drop a little. Just drop the temperature in the server room with air conditioning, the fans you already have in place should do the job.

chocolate is better
>>

It depends on the CPU. Both Colgate and Crest brand toothpaste work fine, the most important issue is the flavor.

Intel CPUs prefer your traditional minty flavors, whereas AMD CPUs prefer kids bubblegum flavored toothpaste. Be careful not to use Kids Watermelon flavored toothpaste as this will degrade performance. As >>58643152
pointed out, for CPUs excessively prone to heat issues use Sensodyne.
