Yeah I'm ready to switch. What's the best distribution for someone who just wants a snappy os and doesn't need to fuck around to just hop in and play Vidya n browse n program?
>>
gentoo
>>
That would be Linux Ubuntu. It's the most full featured and best supported for hardware. All other distributions are hobby operating systems. It's snappier these days and even more so if you have a current computer.
>>
turn off pc

I agree with this guy but instlal using ubuntu mini and use a different desktop environment than unity. KDE, Gnome, and Cinnamon are one of my favorites but literally anything is better than Unity.

It's called Windows 10, sorry updates are unbearable for you, I have a fast SSD so this screen never takes more than 10 seconds
>>
>gamer keyboard

until you stop gaming you will never be ready to switch linux just does not have the support ok?

You really have not been paying attention.
>>
>>58626191
Does FFXIV work on Linux yet? It's like the only video game I play.
>>
>>58626101
>>58626138
A mainstream Ubuntu variant, essentially.
>>
>>58626206
Yeah. It's the easiest pill to swallow for a life long windowsfag. Even Debian takes a little bit of learning to get up to speed with.
>>
>>58625949
This is pretty much what happened to me earlier this year. I ended up using Debian.

>>58626176
Unfortunately this guys is right, I went ahead and setup a dual boot system with debian and windows 8.1 so I could go back to playing the games that are not supported whenever I wanted to. Debian is pretty well documented online with a significant userbase, its pretty solid reliability wise, and with the Cinnamon DE its pretty easy to get used to.

Windows 7

>>58626156
Linux games are great. Many have been developed as it's now 2017. Linux is the future.
>>
>>58626246
Has 2017 been confirmed as the year of the Linux gaming desktop yet?
>>
>>58626261
Yes
>>
>>58625949
If you wan't optimal gaming compatibility and also want to use it as a general purpose desktop operating system, I recommend Ubuntu. Unfortunately, it's the only Linux distro besides SteamOS which is officially supported by Steam and it's the version which most games are going to be tested on. You would probably be able to get away with Linux Mint just fine though, since it's based on Ubuntu.

Can't wait until you run into one of these.
>>
>>58626261
We thought that the year of the Linux desktop would only come if Linux stopped being rough around the edges.

Instead, Windows and Mac OS just got steadily worse.
>>
>>58626460
been using windows for all my life, never had a singe failed update
and in 5 years of working in pc service i seen this shit only when people were retarded enough to just unplug power so you don't have to wait for updates to install or dying hdd
>>
>>58626737
It's happened to me before. I never turn off my computer prematurely while it updates and there is nothing wrong with my harddrive.
>>
Happened to me randomly just two weeks ago. I don't even do anything special with my W10 partition, just games and one day it decided it couldn't install the cumulative update. It would reach 100% and then say it was unable to update, rolling back changes. Funny thing is, is that one of the recommended solutions, some tool that supposed to fix problems with updates doesn't do shit. It'll say "Oh yeah, this update was corrupted and this and but now everything is fixed." but upon update it fails again. If you run the tool again, it'll give the same results, hell you can run it multiple times in a row and it'll pretend like it's doing something each time. Windows is a joke.
>>
>play vidya
Windows is your only option mate.

Windows again.

Not even meming and I use debian daily.

Not because there are no games, but because it's something for children.
Also, most games are proprietary shit.

Depends a lot on how accustomed you're to windows, just remember that linux is not windows and some things are different. Regarding your question you can go either for mint cinnamon or ubuntu mate. xubuntu is great too but the bad part is the default compositor, you can replace it with compton or compiz, it's easy but keep it in mind. If you want to try kde i recommend neon instead of kubuntu. If you choose ubuntu or a derivative go for the latest LTS version which are the recommended ones, not the newest one (unless your hardware is very new but the LTS installation media is updated to support new hardware regularly).

Linux gaming is growing and at this moment if you want to have always the latest driver stack without adding software sources you can go for a rolling distro, the good part is that you practically never need to reinstall to update to the latest version but on some things they may need some more advanced knowledge. Try manjaro if you're interested but i recommend you to start with an ubuntu based one.

good luck.

Thanks. Gonna just dual boot Ubuntu. Anyone know good way to add Ubuntu without re installing windows 10? My partition table is gpt by the way.
