I just installed a normie Linux distro, why haven't anyone told me about these before? They literally just werks compared to Windows 10
>>58615980
what distro did you get
>>58615988
ubuntu with Unity, I tried Mint and Cinnamon as well but i didn't like that shit
>>58615993
>Ubuntu
>Unity
go >>/o/ut
>>58615999
Do you feel there's a problem with Unity because it just works and you dont have to spend 5 days configuring?
>>58616009
use xfce instead.
>>58616046
Never
>they literally
You mean Ubuntu.
Don't let me keep you, just wait til next month. I'll see you back.
>>58615980
Congrats anon!
Don't listen to faggots like >>58616046 and >>58615999 . If your setup werks it's fine.
>>58616107
You said the same thing when I installed Ubuntu last month, butthurt faggot LMAO
>>58615993
get peppermint linux or korora and be happy ubuntu is bloated and not that good anymore
>>58615993
Atleast you knew to shun mint.
Still, unity is gay.
XFCE for the win
There is nothing wrong with normie distros. They all run the same software and they all have more or less the same unix-y environment to work in.
>>58616138
XFCE is filled with bugs
>>58615993
What's wrong with Cinnamon?
>>58616116
this
There's literally nothing wrong with Unity. It's probably the most boring window manager ever but that's how it should be.
>launch programs from launcher buttons
>launch programs and files with super + typing
>search sub menus with alt + typing
>50% left, right
>indicator list
>actual corporation trying to keep this shit running instead of bunch of hobbyists
It's been smooth sailing for years now after they got over the initial hump when they switched from gnome2.
Sadly they'll probably fuck everything up for a year or so when they switch to Unity 8 + mir.
> they unironically don't use debian
>>58616957
>he doesn't know that ubuntu is an improved version of debian
Gonna ask a retarded normie question here but what makes Linux better?
Relatively new to /g/ and been using Windows all my life
>>58615980
You should install Solus.
>>58617039
>lagging a distro is improving it
>>58617173
OP here, installed it yesterday: i like linux because it lets me focus on getting things done and not updating software and reading pop-up messages from every 3rd party application about updates.
So far everything has just worked out of the box. I have everything i need: chrome, spotify, netflix, Atom, compilers, office suite, Virtualbox, discord, steam
>>58617284
Yandex use Ubuntu in production.
>>58617284
Why do you lie, Ubuntu is not a lagging distro.
Also
>using greentext to try to prove a point
Lol. Go back to being jealous of the /comfy/ Ubuntu users while you use your Debian.
>>58616200
what isn't?
>>58617227
This joke is going to far...
>>58617227
What theme is that?
>>58617227
hi kevin, did your parents hate you or why did they name you kevin?
>>58617336
>>58617343
>>58617361
No my mom loves me and Kevin is a great name.
>>58615993
>ubuntu with Unity,
Terry Davis uses that shit m8 and he's not a normie.
>>58617298
I think he's talking about Unity being very resource heavy when compared to other DEs. Though if you have at least a PC worth $300 you shouldn't have problems with Unity.
>>58617406
Unity isn't that resource heavy either though. People are just salty because it works and normies are able to use it just fine.
>>58615980
>why haven't anyone told me about these before
Except every told you. Winfags are just stubborn babbies, Most Linux distros haven't been idiot-proof for a long time now.
How do you fix this?
>>58617549
By installing Solus.
>>58617549
Oh I don't know, maybe try restarting the computer like it said.
>>58617564
how will restarting anything possible help
>Linux just werks compared to Windows 10
did you hear the news? Unity 8 will let you put the dock on the right hand side. this is why we pay canonical, for grand innovations like this
>>58617669
It's "locked" now because people are stupid and would rather move their mouse greater distances just because they can't adapt to new looks.
It's on the left because close/minimize/maximize buttons are on the left
>>58616200
Cinnamon on Ubuntu is max comfort. I still typically use xfce, tho
>>58617739
>I still typically use xfce
lol
>>58617730
>Unity 8
just let them move it where they want it. my left monitor has the taskbar on the left, and my main has it on the bottom. its a visual thing cos I mostly use keyboard shortcuts.
>>58615980
>why haven't anyone told me about these before?
Because /g/ is full of trolls.
>>58616009
1. Unity is a space waster.
2. It's sluggish and buggy. If it works for you, wait a few more weeks. It's gonna break down on you eventually like it always does.
3. Using Ubuntu supports Canonical, probably the worst company to produce a Linux distribution. While it is true that they have disabled Amazon spyware in Unity, the past years have shown that they are WILLING to sell their users to a company.
MATE Ubuntu is the best Ubuntu
>>58617669
*claps*
bravo canonical, yet another astonishing innovation to add to the ever growing library of canonical innovations
>>58617549
Manjaro is just as slick as ubuntu, and much lighter. Protip - split your /home directory into a different partition. It's much easier to recover your files when you duck up.
>>58618026
This, MATE is the best GUI currently available. Before that it was GNOME2.
>>58615980
Because everyone on /g/ wants to recommend the most unknown distro to seem 1337.
>>58615993
Unity is great, Ambiance might not be everyone's cup of tea but that can easily be fixed with a theme. The only thing I wish could be changed are notifications not being actionable. You should check out indicator-notifications. Getting it to integrate with your icon theme might take a little effort, though.
>>58616227
Unity 8 is starting to look really snazzy from what I've seen of it. I have a 2-in-1 so I'm pretty hyped for it being touch-friendly.
>>58617730
You can currently move it down.
>>58617769
old habits, they die hard
>>58617417
>>58618974
Reviewbrah?
>>58617393
also anakata used, at least for a whilr, ubuntu
