Is there any shame in developing with java rather than C/C++?
I mean, minecraft was worth 2 billion dollars.
Please don't
Eh, I like java way more than C personally, I don't care if someone else thinks it's a pleb language.
Java is a good language with good syntax but the JVM holds your hand and makes your product wonky
All g-memes aside, java is considered one of the best languages for industry. It's support is huge, it's still getting better. Libraries and frameworks keep getting better for it. You can just about do anything with java. It's easy to develop in, and there's lots of people with skills to develop for.

No. Java is better
Languages are just a tool. If Java is a better tool for what you're trying to do, then use it, if C/C++ is better, then use that instead.
I just think that, while Java was a hot thing years ago, when portability was a issue and there were tons of different platforms to deploy, right now it lost most of its appeal, as platforms have pretty much stabilized. You have one desktop target architecture, which pretty much every programming language has a way to write portable code, and Java doesn't even run in 2 of the main 3 mobile OSes.
Also, although it generates pretty fast code, the JVM warm up time and it being a "stop-the-world" garbage-collected language makes it bad for performance critical code. Just my 2 cents though.
