Can I turn my laptop into a wired controller for my ps3?
My brother is using my ps3 controller for his system and I want to play with mine.
I have a laptop running Ubuntu 16.04. Is there some way to make the ps3 recognize input from my laptop as a contoller? I know I can use some 3rd-party controllers with both ps3 and PCs, so these technologies have gotta be compatible somehow.

I'm using my laptop to view movies on my TV through HDMI. I bitstream Dolby Digital AC3 and DTS to my reciever.

However, the Intel audio device is not capable of bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD to the reciever. Thus I would like to send it as LPCM audio to the reciever instead.
When I attempt to play a movie with DTS-HD, Media Player Classic just falls back to bitstreaming the standard DTS audio instead of sending DTS-HD as a LPCM signal.

What am I doing wrong?
I have disabled DTS-HD bitstreaming in MPC-HC but allowed bitstreaming of standard DTS since I can bitstream that normally.

How come iGPUs are developing so fast, with AMD even claiming the new Ryzen APUs will be capable of "PS4 grade graphics", all on a tiny little die, together with a CPU, and at a ridiculously low TDP, and graphics cards are still huge and have such a big power consumption?

PS4 grade graphics my ass. Onboard has come a long way, but it's still light years away from current gen dedicated cards

Because they're so much more powerful than igpus? And dedicated cards have gotten far more efficient over time similar as igpus. A 1080 only has like 180W tdp

I'm trying to connect a third screen two my PC. I have two atteched to my graphics card, and I want to attach the third one to the onboard VGA. I went into the BIOS and enabled SurroundView, which should to use integrated graphics and graphics card at the same time, and I see both devices in the device manager. But I can't get third screen to work. When I go to the Windows 7 screen resolution menu, it shows a VGA device, but when I choose any option other than disconnect or remove this display, I get an error message "Unable to save display settings". Kinda yes, raspi is better for automatization. For server-like usage (torrent box, media server, fileserver, ftp/http server) other bards that have
-SoC based ethernet (some has even gigabit. even if you cannot hit the 1000Mbit/sec, if you go above 100M it was worth it)
-SATA port for faster data transfer and cheaper storage
are better. Since we are talking about server software, you don't need the ebin raspi community for it, as configuring owncloud for example is done the same way as on a desktop, a virtual machine, a remove server and a dev board.

A minor thing, but most ARM dev boards work without proprietary bootloaders.

There's Kawaii codecpack(http://haruhichan.com/forum/showthread.php?7545-KCP-Kawaii-Codec-Pack), which basically auto installs MPC-HC and MadVR and configures it for you. I use it and despite a few bugs when I leave a player paused for hours, it's pretty great.

While syntax is kinda similar, they are completely different. C++ is compiled to a specific system while java is interpreted by the java virtual machine, that way you can write it once and run in any OS that can run a JVM.

C++ uses pointers and java don't. C++ has multiple inheritance while java don't. There are hundreds of differences between the 2

I'm currently running a Debian server on my Xeon E3-1240v3 equipped SuperMicro board in my living room, with QEMU/KVM installed for VMs, primarily for separate servers for games, and to serve with GPU passthrough to a Windows 8.1 VM for a media center attached to my home theatre.

I'm thinking of moving to a pure hypervisor OS, mainly Proxmox because the containers method for certain applications would work better for applications that are native to Linux already, like Plex (which I use on the host OS right now)

How would I go about making a shared pool of storage for all my containerized applications like Plex, Bittorrent Sync, Samba, etc on a setup like that? I only have a single 3TB hard disk in there at the moment, will RAID mirror it later. I'm just confused as to how to allow each container to write to a single shared storage area as I do already. Basically Plex, Samba, and Bittorrent Sync all read from a single directory which I have subdirectories in. Not sure how to allow each container access to this. Just use bind mounts or something?

Also, should I install Promox to a flash drive instead and boot it from that, and then create LVM partitions for the VMs and the shared pool?

Pretty simple calculus question.

I'm used to area bounded by curves questions like:
>Find the area bounded by the curves y = x^2 - 4 and y = -x^2 - 2x

But I have the question:
>Find the area bounded by the curves y = x^2 - 4 and y = -x^2 - 2x when -3 <= x <= 1.

I'm not quite sure what the "when -3 <= x <= 1" is supposed to contribute to the problem. At x = -3 there isn't even an area between the curves. Is it just irrelevant information? Do I just find the areas that wall within x=-3 and x=1? There is no area that falls outside of that interval, but if there was would I ignore it?

Thanks, yeah I thought about something like this but it only shows files currently being used by other programs. Nothing is using this file right now according to PE.
>>
>>58595955
There could be a few different reasons.

Does your mobo have any lights on it showing it has power?

Do you have any electronics stuff to see if the fan works? i.e. can you give it a voltage source safely?

The problem may be your fan or your mobo or your CPU honestly. Why?

mobo doesn't have power or is broken = no power to CPU or fan
fan broken = no power, CPU may not even turn on due to protection circuitry
cpu broken = controls fan

Yep. You might want to see if you have a buddy who can feed a few volts to that fan with a battery and some wires.

>>58595958
It's been a few years, but probably. Just find the integral with the + C thing, then evaluate it from [-3, 1].

>>58595982
Move the file, don't delete it. See what happens. See if the timestamp is at the same as the creation date. Then, maybe you can catch the process in the act.

I will, just curious can cryptolockers mess up backups of seemingly unencrypted files?

The files are TMP905C.tmp and TMPC14C.tmp both lead to virus related results. Then again I probably just moved them from an old computer along with my music so who knows. Backing up just in case.

Cryptolockers will search for all connected drives (including network drives) to find files to encrypt.

However, if you're on Linux, the virus won't be installed on it (it's only installed on Windows.)

However, if the virus has started encrypting files, some of them may already be lost. So, the sooner you boot to Linux and start backing up, the better.

haha I doubt I could pull that off

I call them and they make me go through the plugging and unplugging, when that yields no result they "elevate my service request"
basically putting me on hold to another pajeet of higher skill
second pajeet checks my software for updates, and runs a line check
"I am going to elevate your service request"

then I get in line with about a thousand other people for a line technician; who never arive because the only thing anyone cares about is getting the fibre optic lines fixed

I'm a student with a PC, a laptop. and a smartphone, but I want to be able to access all of my files from any of them. What is the best way to do this? I usually carry the laptop on me, and I always have my phone on me.

Set up a Samba/SMB server on your PC. This is called a network drive (that's what schools, big companies use to share files across the network and external from the network.)

Then, map the network drive to your laptop and your phone. This is VERY popular and there will be LOADS of programs to do this, but you'll need to have some networking knowledge.

You'll have to forward the SMB port and set up a user with the correct permissions.

If it's too slow, or you don't like running your comp while you're gone, get a VPS (which may have a bit of a learning curve.) http://lowendbox.com for a cheap one.

>>
>>58597031

thank you so much. one more question, out of the loads of programs, what are some reputable ones? and as far as networking knowledge, i'm not averse to learning but would i just need to learn how to set up a network or is there more to it than that?
>>
>>58597000
>>58597031
Also you can set up a network drive on your laptop and on your phone. You'll probably want a dynamic dns for that. Phone will probably be more issues with a server app across multiple networks (i.e. you may not be able to forward the port over AT&T/Verizon 3g/4g or McDonald's wifi.)

>>58597039
Dropbox is definitely a solution too. Easier, but that one actually costs money. $10/m or $100/yr is a bit ridiculous compared to free with some effort and gained knowledge.

>>58597056
FTP works too, but may incur some issues with using programs from said FTP (you'll have to download EVERYTHING in order to use a game you have stored on it, for example.) You also won't be able to stream video, you'll have to download the whole thing.
>>
>>58597064
Assuming you're on Windows, there are plenty of guides out there. Look up how to setup a Windows SMB network drive on google. There are loads of YouTube tutorials on how to do this.

As far as networking knowledge, if you know what an IP is, how to forward a port in your router, you should be good to go.

FTP may be an easier solution, so look at my other post for FTP's short comings. If those aren't an issue, then choose that since it's easier.

Also, note that FTP will require you to update the file afterwards on the server. For example, if you have a word doc on your FTP, you need to download it. Once you modify it, you'll have to reupload it to the FTP server.
>>
>>58597064
>>58597092
One more thing, you will probably want to use a dynamic domain (they're free at freedns.afraid.org or no-ip or w/e) in case your IP changes. There are also youtube videos explaining this.

Usually its just the keyboard people care about - PS/2 can do NKRO, and the Model M crowd likes it. It's useful if you're intrying to install Win7 on a Skylake system and can't use USB in the installer.

But there really isn't any point to PS/2 mice. It's technologically trivial to make one port speak both languages, though, so it does.

Find a router that you can flash DD-WRT on. Why DD-WRT? Because it runs fucking amazing and allows you to do a lot of shit. It will run better than the stock firmware, hands down. You will have no issues with performance -- and if you do, you can tune it in the router's config interface.

Buy it from BestBuy/Staples/Walmart/etc (will be $70-$100.) Why? Because if you brick it installing DD-WRT, you can return it and say it was DOA. I've done that before, and even got a free USB cable out of it. Lol.

WD Red Pro is amazing. Good performance, and it will last a long time.

If you're worried about one dying and losing all your data, set them up in RAID1. This means, if one drive dies, the other will still have the data. However, if you have 2x2TB drives, you will only have 2TB of storage (not 4TB.)

Aside from redundant drives, you will also have 2x the read speed for files. More I/O speeds, woohoo!

If I were to get a Kabylake CPU, such as the i77777777700k, and I were to get a Z270 motherboard (in particular Gigabyte Z270N-WIFI), and I were to remove the m.2 wifi card from it, and install a x16 gpu and x4 m.2 nvme drive, would the gpu be running in x8?

Intel ARK page for 7700k would seem to indicate this is the case, "PCI Express Configurations ‡ Up to 1x16, 2x8, 1x8+2x4".

In which case I wouldn't get any benefit from removing the m.2 wifi card.

please confirm
>>
>>58599006
No. That's a premium price for a refurb item that frequently goes for less on sale in new/mint condition.
>>
>>58599044
oh I forgot to add the bit about the PCH.

BUT, the Z270 board should supposedly have 14 pcie lanes connected to the PCH.

Would then the m.2 slots be connected via the PCH, leaving my x16 free for full GPU operations?

you've probably gone too far over what your cpu can do, and it's not even able to complete POST

while i'm not really an expert, here's what i know;
1. bump the multiplier/base freq a little at a time, do a short stress test each time to ensure it's stable
2. once you've found that limit, and you want to continue, then consider bumping the voltage, bump it in /very small amounts at a time/, like 10ths/20ths of a volt, again, stress test. note that increasing the voltage will have a larger effect on power usage and heat generation, keep a close eye on temperatures as well!
3. then mix the two to find your ideal combination of voltage/base freq/multiplier
>>
>>58599086
By chaining together various logic gates.

For example, if (in binary, obviously) we wanted to add two digits, we would use the half-adder.

This is just an AND and an XOR gate working in concert.

http://2007.igem.org/wiki/index.php/Project

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/92/Halfadder.gif

The "carry" bit is the AND of the 2 input bits. If both input bits are high, the answer is going to be in the next order of magnitude, thus carry bit is also high. If either of the input bits are low, the answer is NOT going to be in the next order of magnitude, thus the carry bit is low.
1 AND 1 = Carry bit of 1
1 AND 0 = Carry bit of 0
0 AND 1 = Carry bit of 0
0 AND 0 = Carry bit of 0

Next, the "sum" bit is the XOR of the 2 input bits. If they're both 1, it's going to carry with no remainder thus the sum is 0. If they're both 0 then obviously 0 + 0 is 0. If one input bit is 1 and one input bit is 0, that is 1 + 0 which is obviously 1.
1 XOR 1 = Sum bit of 0
1 XOR 0 = Sum bit of 1
0 XOR 1 = Sum bit of 1
0 XOR 0 = Sum bit of 0

therefore for inputs 1,0, you do 1 AND 0 which gives you a carry bit of 0, and you do 1 XOR 0 which gives you a sum bit of 1. That gives your answer of binary 01.

If you have inputs 1,1 you do 1 AND 1 which gives you a carry bit of 1, and you do a 1 XOR 1 which gives you a sum bit of 0. That gives your answer of binary 10. Which when we convert to decimal is 2. 1 + 1 = 2.

and you work up from there.

I hope that helps.

No, it doesn't. it's just the last line pötteringd prints out.

1. reboot

Alright, first of all drop the word "hub". It has a specific meaning and is not something you want, so calling it that is counterproductive.

All you really need is a portable router that lets you clone mac addresses. As long as all the devices are on the same network (i.e. connected to the same router at any given point), you can use windows print/file sharing, plus whatever standard your tv accepts. No guarantees you can share every paid hotspot, but generally they use MAC addresses to identify the logged in device, so the odds are decent.

gsync makes it so that every frame gets displayed as soon as it is ready on your graphics card.

Normally, for a 60hz monitor, it will display a new frame every 16ms. If your gpu completes a frame in 6ms, it will wait another 10ms until the monitor displays it. If your gpu completes a frame in 18ms, it will have displayed the same older frame twice, for 32ms and the new frame would have had to wait for 14ms.

All that waiting adds input lag.

Sandisk Plus is a little bottom of the barrel, but I have 2 of them and they're good enough for games (my intel & samsung ones are better though), other than that it all looks fine. I don't really follow AMD though so I have no idea if it's a good card choice.

I do note you have all different sellers in that list, it'll cost you more in shipping to use each than you'll save vs going to one place (usually). Scope it out first of course.

I'm actually a fan of the case you chose earlier ;) I have a Define XL R2, it's huge but it's great. Either choice is good though.

>>58600336
GNOME boxes or virtualbox still applies. If you have high uptime or high availability requirements then you would want to look into Xen, Proxmox, or Vmware.

I develop in virtualbox every day, but if something goes wrong I just hit the reset button. Not good if you can't do that. Virtualbox is going to be easier to experiment with networking than boxes though, KVM and networking can be complex if you're not familiar with NetworkManager.

If you wanna feel leet, you can pirate vmware workstation and enjoy finding the magic spell to build the host drivers. VMware is the shit when it comes to virtualisation however.

apparently the same thing vsync does, but without input lag. you also have to buy a more expensive specialized monitor to benefit from it.

You can ignore it for being another shitty nvidia gimmick. AMD's freesync is proliferating through the industry instead and normal monitors support it instead of needing to buy a speshul monitor that costs $100 more for being gsync ready.

Gsync is a waste of money considering the monitors needed. Freesync is better because of it.

I was saying that both freesync and gsync are useful, but freesync is cheaper, and therefore buying an rx 480 over a gtx 1060 would be a better deal if they want to utilise some form of async, simply due to the fact that for otherwise identical monitors, a gsync monitor will cost at least $100 more than the freesync version. You're not wrong about freesync being more economical. Obviously that's AMDs whole point. But what I'm saying is that your choice in monitor tech is just a bigger part of the decision to buy nvidia or AMD. There's a lot of other factors. Somebody who wants the power of a 1080 may decide it's worth the price premium. And "team" just refers to whether you are currently using red or green. It doesn't mean you're a fanboy, it's just a shorthand for what you're buying.
