Why does /g/ care so much about "free" software and "botnets"? Not bait, I'm just legitimately confused why there's so much elitism on this board.

I am programming a calculator, not a microsoft's spycam.
There can be NO reason to implant a spyware module into a compiler, you can't justify it no matter how big of a brain dead Microsoft fanboy you are.

Shitty bait

But why does it matter? Any information big companies want, they probably already have.
>why are people concerned with privacy
>why are people concerned with security
Do you need me to explain these concepts to you, or can you get it from here?
When it comes to stuff that /g/ memes about with "botnet" shit, my concern is usually performance over privacy. I don't really care if windows clock service is reporting some garbage from my system to MS, but why are you doing it every 3 seconds.
I have like 200 uninstalled "optional updates" in Windows 8 right now though so probably not doing too bad.
For other stuff, I don't care that it's a botnet. I use google mail/maps/keep/search/photos/ etc all day, they can have their analytic shit in return.

Then why do they want more? They have it all so it should stop now (by your logic).
