Used for a while a BenQ keyboard with Acer switches. Better than any membrane I ever used, but looking for something more clicky.

Both the Filco Majestouch 2 and WASD Keyboard's v2, in the configuration I want, seem both to fit my criteria, but I can't find stock of the first one in that particular configuration and WASD's shipping to Europe makes it expensive. What are my alternatives?

Because ABS is garbage and in every way worse than PBT
>>
>>58579069
Why do people pay over a hundred dollars for ABS keycaps in current year
>>
>>58579136
Because GMK caps are about the highest quality ABS caps out there. They use the same tooling as the original cherry doubleshots after all.
>>
>>58579136
GMK carbon was well under 100 bucks tho. It was like 80 with shipping
>>
>>58579254
high quality abs still gets slippery in no time
>>
>>58579655
It'd take a year or 2/3 years, depending on use, but sure.

Aside from GMK there's no sculpted PBT equivalent for SA profile just yet. Until these become available that is:

*sorry for bad pic quality, just doing this real fast like

welp... orange """PBT""" key caps from chink man finally arrived. not sure how i feel desu. the first thing, I dont think this is pbt at all? cause it doesn't feel thicker than my white ones which are double shot abs from chinkman also. and the bleed through at the top face is horrendous! fortunately its only at the top but regardless i was gonna paint the walls white anyway so the legends wont glow orange.
And yes, this is at max brightness but still, as you can see the white ones has no bleed through at all. So i dont think this is pbt or can pbt be this thin? cause the only thing comparable tot he bleed through is my meme down arrow cap before i used white out inside it to control the bleeding.

the orange is pretty nice, pastel and matches the white keys really nice

so now im kinda torn if i should put in the effort in painting the orange key caps white inside, if its worth the effort or just stick with whites

Looking for a second keyboard, as I'm getting RSI on my work keyboard, but the shopping selection in New Zealand is pretty bad.

Have a Filco TKL (Browns), looking at either a Ducky One TKL, or, CM Masterkeys Pro S.
Is there anything to be way of with either of these boards?

Have no experience with either and can't get my hands on a demo unit either.
>>
>>58580018
Not spending the money; am poor. I already have the browns.

I'm limited to what is stocked in NZ.. I hate this country sometimes..
Can I record macro's to the Fn + [key] modifier.

i.e.
> I press [Fn] + [p] -> output Vol. Up
> I press [p] -> output 'p'

or, can I only map the individual keys to a macro, with no [Fn] modifier functionality.

Was able to get rid of majority of the bleed through w/ white out, but the orange tint of the lettering I cannot. I think the actual plastic that's translucent has a tint of orange too. Also used white out on the walls inside...

should I just stick to white caps lads?
If so the orange keycaps are like 11$ is this shit worth returning lol? I mean I used a credit card so I can be good goy and return it and just charge back or something?

could be worse

could be a hhkb fan who poses their keyboards with the guns that they will (statistically speaking) likely use to eventually kill themselves and / or their loved ones with even though they believe that they're too smart and careful to do that just like everyone with guns who got depressed at just the wrong time and realized they could just pull the trigger and end it all so easily even going so far as to take out their loved ones first so that they don't have to suffer with the pain of waking up to see them dead of a gunshot wound

so, there's that

>>
Hey, /g/.

I just bought a Rosewill RK-9000V2 with Cherry Brown switches as my first mechanical after doing a good bit of research. I love it. Typing is pure pleasure now, and the ergonomics are great. I'm running into one problem.

The keyboard has the option to use PS2 or USB. I opted for PS2 due to unlimited key rollover as opposed to 6 via USB. Now, it was always my experience that PS2 keyboards weren't plug and play; that you had to plug them in when the PC was off, then boot it and voila. For some reason, this keyboard when using USB AND PS2 is hot swappable. The problem is that, whichever connection I choose, it will not be recognized in my BIOS. I'll reboot, the lights will flash and do their check, but keys will not be recognized. As soon as I'm in Windows, I have to unplug and replug, and it gets instantly recognized. I can't find anyone else who has this problem. The common issue people usually have is the opposite: "it works in the BIOS but not Windows."

I have absolutely no idea how to fix this, and Google hasn't offered me any answers or even suggestions. It's frustrating because I love this keyboard. My PC is fresh built less than four months ago and I'd be happy to provide specs if necessary.

Can any of you guys give me some advice? I'd really appreciate it.

>>
>>58587123
That's fair. C.S. Lewis has a great quote about how people who keep eating canned fruit start to prefer it over fresh fruit. A similar thing has probably happened for you and your preference for ABS.

>>
>>58589930
Dear person who said I could build a keyboard with this and everyone who might be tempted to use it
Seems there are only 18 usable pins on it, so you're missing 1 pin to build a keyboard with 5 rows and 14 columns

Now I can either rewire the thing put the stuff from my last column on other ones, or buy a teensy
>>
>>58589990
>>58589930
sorry didn't mean to quote
>>
>>58589504
you might be able to set your keyboard to be handled as a generic one instead of specific. another fix would be to install gentoo.

Tai hao coats their PBT with some really shitty substance, makes them feel rough and sticky if your fingers sweat. Also their colored keycaps tend to distort color quickly if your fingers sweat because of that coating. Imsto or Ducky PBT keycaps don't come with that shitty coating and are a better representation of what PBT keycaps should feel like. Avoid Tai Hao if you actually use your keyboard, they look good on pictures but feel like shit.
>>
>>58590186
They stopped doing that in newer batches, didn't they?
>>
>>58590186
How are NPKC PBT keycaps? I have some Vortex PBT ones which feel nice and don't have any of those issues, and I'm thinking about picking up some blank NPKC caps for another keyboard.
>>
>>58590236
Not him but I own the sky blue and white NPKC blanks in OEM profile. They have a nice texture to them that feels quite satisfying, a bit smooth but it definitely feels like PBT.
>>
>>58590235
I don't know about newer batches, they may have. I was just speaking from my experience when I bought Tai Hao PBTs, which was several years ago, so maybe this is not true anymore.
>>
>>58589990
You need Teensy++

I tried to use one for making custom keyboard, but TMK firmware acts weird :(

I already found some non backlit ones for half that price. I'll give you a hint.
Google Ducky Channel Partners. It should take you to Ducky's official website. All those listed there can sell you keyboards with a 1 year warrenty that they have to fullfil

Where do I buy caps in the UK

Whats the difference between ABS and PBT.
>>
>>58601430
ABS is code for Anal Bum Sex, while PBT stands for Patrician's Better Typing.
>>
>>58601430
abs gets shiny, yellows and doesn't sound as good, i dunno, but maybe keyclack.

PBT is much more durable then ABS, while also being softer. My ABS keycaps developed this nasty texture to them, but my Model M still looks brand new. Not all PBT keycaps are equal. If you are from the UK then ukkeycaps is a good place to start

1 Ducky;
1 in-case-of-emergency memebrane keyboard.

Planning to get CMX blues, probably in the very far future.
>>
>>58601447
UK keycaps doesn't sell a good selection of PBT keysets.

literally ukkeycaps.
>>
>>58601573
who cheap Tai-hao PBT is on the same level as ABS keycaps. Its not like your gonna feel the difference
>>
>>58601715
Having PBT rather than ABS is just for internet bragging points. Unless your using your keyboard a lot more than you actually are you won't notice the difference.
>>
>>58601728
Not him, but you're half right. Yeah, people exaggerate the qualities of PBT, but they do feel a little bit nicer to type on. It's not a massive difference, but it's still nice. Still, most of it is basically just bragging.
>>
>>58601728
eventually you do notice the difference. I prefer PBT since its softer and doesn't hurt the tips of my fingers. Plus they've already lasted longer then the ABS keycaps on both my rubber dome keyboards combined
>>
>>58601748
I get what you are saying but I have had some really nice, think ABS caps that honestly felt no different to PBT.

>>58601755
desu I switch my key caps too often for any set to stay on my keyboard long enough to show wear.
>>
>>58601788
>>I get what you are saying but I have had some really nice, think ABS caps that honestly felt no different to PBT.
*in the first 6 months, i am also deaf.
>>
>>58601828
I always have o rings and my keyboard and tend to listen to music so you could be right.
>>
>>58601430
AliExpress, Taobao, UKKeycaps
The chink keycaps like EnjoyPBT are pretty good desu
>>
>>58601430
beware if you buy cheap chink pbt, not tai haos, like i did for like 11 bucks, it will hurt you fingers. and they feel horrible
>>
>>58602152
Which ones did you buy
The NPKC PBT caps are alright imo

>>58601728
You won't notice it right away but you will eventually. The keycaps on my Ducky Shine 3 are shiny as fuck after three years.
>>
>>58601412
>Ducky Channel Partners
I checked all their partners in the UK and only microdirect stocks TLK version for £85 but it's sold out. All the rest only have RGB version, with overclockers being the cheapest for £130
>>
>>58602660
why not buy from your next door neighbors? You still haven't officially left the EU yet.

Going to sell the Shine 4 and get a Ducky One with whites.

Have you considered a Leopold? you can get them from mykeyboard.eu without customs fees. most of the black TKL ones are out of stock but you can always ask them about it.

Don't bother. Even if its from keyboardco he wouldn't buy one since it isn't on amazon.
There are also CM keyboards too

ANSI or ISO?
>>
>>58603609
ANSI looks better, ISO Enter is a bit comfier.
>>
>>58603609
Dunno the one where enter takes 2 rows, not 1.
>>
>>58603609
neither. Bigass enter key is the best
>>
>>58603609
As a current ISO user, ANSI for the better symmetry.
>>
I'm starting to think a Varmilo VA68M/Magicforce 68 layout might actually be the best layout for me, are there any completely programmable options for that?
>>
>>58603816
clueboard
>>
>>58603839
I know of that, I was hoping for something with the 4-key cluster at top right and all standard ANSI caps so when I want replacement keycaps for it I can just buy the packs needed for a TKL, no spending extra on special modifiers I'm only going to use one or two of.
>>
>>58603839
>completely programmable

Does the Clueboard not use standard QMK like it says on the site?

Suggestions for leaf babbys first mech keyboard. Looking for blues/brown and tenkeyless form factor. Cheaper stuff if possible too
>>
>>58604454
Get a cheap Gateron board.
Their switches are much smoother.
