infinality is dead and my fonts look like absolute shit
Yes I followed https://gist.github.com/cryzed/e002e7057435f02cc7894b9e748c5671 verbatim and they still look like this.
Please help before I kill myself from these shitty fucking fonts

What distro do you use?
This stuff here works on Gentoo and XFCE and most likely is also applicable to the distro you use: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Fontconfig#Infinality
>>58573924
This laptop is on Arch, but so is my T420 and the only real difference is that this is running GNOME.
The T420 looks fine with the font config symlinks, no clue why this looks so garbage
>>58573823
No idea what you're talking about.
Followed the same guide, on Arch btw
>>58574136
Yours looks much better, what DE?
I'm starting to think GNOME is at fault here
>>58574157
Using Openbox, no DE.
As you can see in pic related the rendering is worst on GTK3 apps it seems.
Gedit, gnome-font-viewer etc don't display fonts as well as the browser.
>>58574197
I'm so fucking done with gtk
so fucking done
But KDE is a huge memory hog and my poor X201 can't really handle it
So should I just use xfeces?
>>58574229
Yeah why not, try LXQT too, I tried it and it's not as bad as people think.
I honestly dont' like XFCE because it looks like dogshit on default values, but any DE/WM does I guess.
>>58573823
> use raster fonts
> problem solved literally from now to the heat death of fucking universe no matter what shitty rendering engine version will appear
Why should i bother.
>>58574261
enlighten me anon
>>58574229
Both GTK and Qt application will use freetype, you retard. Your fault being being a complete idiot who doesn't research things for himself, but blindly does things and installs shit like Infinality, without even knowing what it does.
Normal people use a simple fontconfig file and the fonts look acceptable. Not that you'd be able to tell, because you're on par with audiophiles.
>>58574157
Make sure you make it use the right settings in GNOME tweak tool.
>>58575222
I made the correct symlinks from config.avail to config.d
I made a local.conf
That fixed the UI rendering, but firefox still looks like dogshit
>install most recent freetype2
>/.config/fontconfig/
>create fonts.conf
>paste this:<?xml version='1.0'?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
<fontconfig>
<match target="font" >
<edit mode="assign" name="autohint"> <bool>true</bool></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="hinting"> <bool>false</bool></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter"> <const>lcddefault</const></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle"> <const>hintslight</const></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="antialias"> <bool>true</bool></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="rgba"> <const>rgb</const></edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<test name="pixelsize" qual="any" compare="more"><double>15</double></test>
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter"><const>lcdlight</const></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle"><const>hintnone</const></edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<test name="weight" compare="more"><const>medium</const></test>
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle"><const>hintnone</const></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter"><const>lcdlight</const></edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<test name="slant" compare="not_eq"><double>0</double></test>
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle"><const>hintnone</const></edit>
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter"><const>lcdlight</const></edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>
These are the best freetype configs I've seen so far. The only program that still has problems is OpenOffice. If anyone knows how to get the default Fedora configs, I'd recommend using those instead, but IDK what they are.
>>58575814
Looks a little better compared to my previous local.conf, still nothing even remotely close to how nice infinality was
Why the fuck can't they just merge boohmils patches?
>>58576235
Well, that looks totally different from my fonts, so I'm not sure how you could be using the same config that I posted. Maybe you have a shit compositor or something? Or did you forget to restart the program/DE to see the new font rendering?
>>58575692
Weird.
I don't know, you must've fucked up something while installing.
There's still the AUR package though, you could try that if you haven't.
>>58575692
firefox looks like doghsit unless you recompile.
Also set the fonts size to 9 like any normal person
