What TV does /g/ use for vidya?

I'm trying to buy a bigscreen tv and it's a disaster. Specs are all over the place and don't mean shit. How is this legal? They have made it impossible to know what you're buying. What is best for gaming? What is best for smooth motion? Is there a maximum "size you need to go for to prevent input lag? Will all the post processing effects make the input lag unbearable? All very unclear if youre the average consumer who buys a tv every 10 years.

Do I need a hardware 60hz panel for gaming or is a hardware 50hz software interpolated to 100hz or higher okay too? How about tvs that sport a hefty 1000-2500hz value?
Some tvs in a tv store have incredibly smooth motion as if it was like 500fps. Is that possible to use for low input lag gaming with ps4/pc connected to it? What value should i look for in the specs?
How will my 24hz movies look on a 50hz/software100+hz? Will they look choppy? How about on 60hz/software120+hz?
Similarly how will games look?
Will lower resolutions look okay on native 4k tv sets?
How about ghosting? Is there any difference between hz values and how this infleunces ghosting?

Jesus fuck. Im serious when I wonder how this is legal. Lots of sites say they cannot tell by specs how good a tv set is, so how is the average consumer going to know? What the fuck.

Is input lag like a serious thing. I've never noticed it.

First off, when you say gaming, what do you mean? Console or PC? What kind of games and input method?

>>58562172
Well it's definitely real, It's often 30-60ms, meaning 2-4 frames late in 60fps games
>>
>>58563089
ps4 and pc. gamepad and kb+mouse. depends on the game. Play csgo, but mostly some input intensive videogames like dmc4.

>What is best for gaming? What is best for smooth motion?
The one with the best contrast and colors. If you're gaming on a TV you're hopefully not doing it seriously so relax about the refresh rates. The input lag wont be noticeable on a console or for casual gaming.

50hz/60hz doesnt matter significantly. Unless you're very sensitive you wont notice the difference in 24hz video games can be set to 50hz.

Look up actual refresh rates instead of falling for marketing memes. "1000-2500hz" will be such a meme, and so will "truemotion" etc. Some TVs have real refresh rates up to 240hz, but again, it will be used for interpolation only, which is in itself mostly meme, apart from "black frame insertion", which can help some afaik. For that you only need 120hz (for 60hz content). You probably dont want to use this for gaming though as you get more input lag.

>Will lower resolutions look okay on native 4k tv sets
In general it will look the same or better or as on a 1080p panel.
>How about ghosting? Is there any difference between hz values and how this infleunces ghosting?
not afaik.

If you really care about the input lag then ene a cheap 60hz PC monitor will be better.

Panasonic TH-50PZ80U

Had it since 2008, still works excellent.

Only downside is that it weighs like 100lbs.

If you're not shopping for an old CRT, I would suggest going with samsung or vizio for the following reasons

Vizio
>P series
2160p @ 60hz (Does not support 4:4:4 chroma)
1080p @ 120hz
18ms input delay in game mode
Active LED zones for better blacks
Decent upscaling
Ghosting is almost impossible to see

>Samsung
JS 8000+
2160p @ 60hz + 4:4:4 chroma
No 1080p @ 120hz
31ms input delay with HDR, 20ms without

These are two of the best sub $2000 models on the market currently IMHO, I own a 65" of both and theyre great. Samsung has hands down better picture quality, but was twice the price and unless they're in the same room i don't really find one less enjoyable than the other.

I bought a 50in Changhong 1080p LED TV from Newegg about 5 years ago for $379. It's been great, gets compliments because small bezels. I run it at 0 brightness and it's still very bright. No ghosting. Right next to my dad's $2000 55in Sony smart TV it's basically the same shit.

If I were to buy one now I'd get one of those Haier 55" or 65" TVs from Costco or the RCA variant. Those are true 4k 60hz, and the 65 inch goes on sale for $650 CAD all the time.
