What do you use to encrypt your hdds /g/?

Truecrypt website claims its not safe anymore. Is that a pathetic attempt from NSA to make us switch to compromised alternatives like bitlocker/veracrypt?

Why do you even need encryption? I'm guessing you're doing something illegal.

All encryption has a backdoor in it, so don't even try to do something unscrupulous.

They're always watching.
>>
> Implying businesses don't need encryption to handle sensitive data
>>
>>58560768
Why do you shut your bathroom door anon if you have nothing to hide?

Why don't you let me install a surveillance cam in your bedroom? Clearly, you're an honest citizen who's got nothing to hide. Why hesitate if I want to verify.
>>
>>58560822
Be my guest, I'm a good person.

Only criminals need to hide shit with encryption.

Yeah, well, some of us are criminals. What's your point?

VeraCrypt

I am using ext4 encrypted on all my usb sticks and usb hdds. All with a different password

Why?
>>
>>58560873
Can Winfags use ext4? or is it restricted to linux master race?
>>

I'm fairly sure there's an audited version which has been essentially confirmed to be safe.
>>

Only linux master race
>>
>>58560925
They only audited the Windows version IIRC.
Just use Veracrypt, it has a lot of improvements over TrueCrypt

Because it works and if someone steals it they dont get my stuff

Are you storing sensitive information on portable media? Bad decision

Use whatever your operating system comes with, so FileVault if MacFag, cryptsetup + luks default if LinuxFag and don't dick around with any of the options unless you have a PhD in cryptanalysis and cryptography

Truecrypt is end of life software, it was forked to Veracrypt but there's a bunch of issues there. Your own OS's full disc encryption is good enough
>>
If something goes wrong the data is unrecoverable.
>>
>>58561149

in windows case, tha'ts bitlocker

and bitlocker is garbage
>>
>>58560741
I still use trucrypt. If i install veracrypt can i just open my dat container in it like normal?
>>
>>58561390
Also ever since the trucrypt said it wasnt secure i get a popup every time i mount saying that my files are corrupt and wants to run some process. I always hit no because i figured it would do something jewish
>>
>>58561149
cryptsetup defaults to xts-aes with a 256(128) key which is not as performant as a 512(256) key on most modern intel chips. Cryptsetup isn't super magically complicated and you should just read a wiki or man page for it.

It is, assuming you're using aes-twofish-serpent, no one can crack your truecrypt files.

there will always be unjust laws

not many years ago turkish were using Encrypted twitter tunnels to send word out about their government.

encryption is a tool, its a weapon, its the ultimate defensive weapon that cant be used to kill, just to protect, all arguments in favour of the right to bear arms apply and some more.
>>
>>58560741

TrueCrypt was the only open source multi-platform encryption software that supports volumes and hidden volumes. GNUPG is also open source and multi-platform, but it doesn't support volumes, and is more geared towards public key cryptography.

If TrueCrypt is generally robust, then why did the dev team disband in the spectacular way that they did? This still leaves more questions than answers.
>>
>>58562431
>>58562090
Tor is still fairly safe, people that leaked IP were always thru some javascript flaw, but you shouldnt be looking at CP its disgusting
>>
>>58562486
>If TrueCrypt is generally robust, then why did the dev team disband in the spectacular way that they did? This still leaves more questions than answers.

didnt steve gibson do a code review, or was the the very crypt dev, there was just some silent fail of added safety measures in the creation of a volume, otherwise it passed

>disgusting
child abuse is disgusting. nudity isn't.

unfortunately there is little legal distinction between these things. and since we know the government is not above committing the very crimes it seeks to punish, it's not worth the risk anymore.
>>
>>58562551
>child abuse is disgusting
yeah, the world Porn implies more than nudity, but ok, looking at naked toddlers is still retarded, but to each his own

Unless your last name is Trump or Putin, you will be treated as such for a lot of years to come. Pretty amazing how we need encryption and other tools these days to protect us from the real bottom feeders and criminals.

tl;dr -- Jump into a hot fire and fuck yourself to death with a broken bottle, anon. Slowly.
>>
>>58562587
I forgot you were born with clothes from H&M. There's a big difference between natural nudity and sexualized nudity. But that's another topic altogether.

yeah and being pro-abortion means you're "anti-life" and being critical of your government is "unpatriotic".

we're fighting a war on "terror" (a concept)

an adult having sex with a 16 year old is statutory "rape"

the government uses all sorts of stupid bullshit words for reasons

TC was shut down suddenly because the feds arrested the lead dev who was a durg lord.
Version 7.1a has been audited and has no vulnerabilities except for a couple minor problems only on Windows.
>>
>>58564139
What about 7.2?

btw true crypt got a national security letter and chose to shut down instead of give the feds the backdoor they requested.
>>
>>58564266
>What about 7.2?
7.2 only allowed you to use and decrypt previously encrypted containers.
It's widely speculated that it is embedded with alphabet soup agency backdoors, and is the reason the TrueCrypt project shut down.
>>
>>58560741
VeraCrypt because it's easy to use, it just works and can use it on Linux, macOS and Windows.

I know this is bait. Not even high quality bait, but encryption doesn't even have to be about hiding from the government.

There's a reason why your door has a lock on it, and it's not because the government might walk in.

Or your goverment officials, or reporters trying to do their work, or companies/groups like (but not limited to) your bank, your hospital, your preferred website to hide the info you gave to them, so, as you see, your vision on tech affairs are myopic at best

Try harder
>>
>>58560741
>Truecrypt website claims its not safe anymore.
Come on, by now everybody with a slightest interest on crypto knows that TC devs commited "web suicide"

TC is an audited software by experts and considered to them as secure, with some flaws but the crypto is rock solid

7.1a if my mind serves me well, is the last version able to encrypt and decrypt.
>>

unles you have its SHA-512 hash saved, i mean etched on a piece of wood facing the inside of a furniture that cant be seen unless taken apart, youre not safe

its not a belief modafuca

I just downloaded 7.1a from here (https://www.grc.com/misc/truecrypt/truecrypt.htm). I'll be testing it on a 2011 MBP running Sierra. Applel won't let me encrypt using FileVault because I'm using a third party SSD from Crucial (just werks, amirite??)

Never mind. SHA256 hashes from >>58571044 don't match the DMG I downloaded.
