If what AMD says is true and they have a 95 watt processor running on par with the 140 watt 6900k then that means.
>43% more performance per watt than the 7700k.

If you use passmark's benchmarks for your performance rating, that is.

Could this really all be up to architecture, or did AMD manage to skip to an 11nm process before Intel?

The i7 6900k, and the entire i7E line for that matter, do not operate at their full TDP unless running heavy AVX ops loading all cores. Under typical workloads they only draw 100-110w.

All Zen based parts are Samsung's 14nm LPP being run at Global Foundries Fab8 in NY. GloFo will not offer a 10nm process, instead they will be running IBM's 7nm SOI FinFET.
