1) Perfect black levels
2) Flawless off-axis viewing
3) Much faster refresh rate than LCD
4) Warmer, more natural image (thanks to scan lines and small granules)
5) Far longer life-span
6) Not subject to manufacture problems such as dead-pixels
7) Good range of compatibility with lower or non-standard resolutions without blurring

Given ultimate space and money the world's best CRT could easily crush the world's best LCD. So tell me /g/, why do you like your inferior screens that companies such as Samsung have brainwashed you to think is better than what already existed? The only cost-savings are on their end.

And the funny thing is you guys keep buying this crappy LCD technology and giving away your free CRTs on Craigslist. A fool and his dollar are soon parted I guess.

And before you start yapping about IPS panels:
Enjoy your slow G2G response to switch pixels already, not to mention that hidden input and scalar lag. Luckily, CRT has no such bullshit.

The only semi-legitimate point I've heard against CRTs regards weight, but you don't bitch about the weight of a prospective couch while furniture shopping, do you? Didn't think so.
>>
>>58539871

you literally chose the shittiest LCD you could find as an example.

>gaming at 4:3 aspect ratio
>not having a 144hz 1ms response time LCD display in 2017
>>
>>58539871

In that pic, the LCD is way off-axis, while the CRT is dead-on. Very misleading pic.

The refresh rate of CRT is NOT better than LCDs. You can get 144Hz LCDs at 1080p or even 1440p fairly affordably. Can you say the same of CRT?

Warmer =/= better. Everyone bangs on about IPS being better than TN, but IPS is cooler. In any case, colour temperature is subjective, but the best is obviously adjustable, which is easily done on either type.

CRTs DO have manufacturing issues, not dead pixels of course, since they don't have pixels in the same way as LCDs, but of course they also have their own range of issues. However, all of the CRTs that are still alive today obviously weren't defective, all the ones that were defective have already died off. That doesn't make CRTs inherently better, it just means it's got years of QC from its previous owners.

And no, you can't reasonably make CRTs with the 'pixel' density of LCDs (no matter what 'ultimate' size and money means), and there are several other advantages too.

I know some competitive gaming people, especially in fighting games, use it because it reduces latency.
>>
>>58540052
>mfw my parents still have an ancient plasma tv from 2005

plasmas are no longer relevant because they couldn't keep up with increasing resolution while keeping costs down. that old 720p screen really shows its age as does the old gas in the pixels. like, white is now yellow. it's like f.lux is on it lol. it was pretty sweet in it's day though. I think oled will be the ultimate once people figure out the burn in issues because like plasma, oled pixels completely shut off for blacks

The colors look significantly better on a CRT. It makes a difference even when watching porn, things look way more real. You're better off with a LCD for stuff like regular internet browsing and work though.

Is IPS a meme? I don't find it much better than TN, I'm wondering if its just me.
>>
>>58540754
its because they can get fuckhueg without weighing multiple tons and literally taking up an entire living room. bigger = better sometimes, especially for home theaters. imagine how massive a 65" 16:9 crt would be
>>
>>58540754
lighter, easier to carry/move, less power usage
most people don't care about image quality
that was enough for them to catch on, manufacturers like them because they're cheaper to manufacture and ship
>>
>>58540776
I think ips is a meme unless you really need the color accuracy because your living/profession depends on it
>>
>>58540784
Why though?

>>58540790
My dad is a photographer and he had a TN monitor earlier for Photoshop and then he bought an IPS display. He says he misses the old one because the colours are better. He still uses his old ass Toshiba laptop to edit on the go too. Are the colours actually better or are they just cooler looking whereas the TN panels are warmer. I trust a photographer over the words of some bestbuy shill.
>>
>>58540821
He was probably used to compensating for how off the TN was(baby duck syndrome). Either that or he got a really terrible IPS.
>>
>>58540844
I guess I'm asking because I want to buy a 4k monitor for his birthday and I want something with good colours. Internet says IPS but he says TN so idk what to do in that case. Maybe install flux and make it warmer
>>
>>58540882
>install flux
Making it "warmer" doesn't solve the problem faggot.
The important thing is finding a monitor and a graphics card that outputs full sRGB colors. That's all there is to it. Be glad you weren't around when dumbasses wondered why an image they made onscreen looked better compared to its printed version.
Also, ask your dad what shade of gray is best to "neutralize" or "reset" your eyes from bright colors burning into your retina. Start using that as a desktop background.

>>
>>58541036
surely not, "flat" CRTs were shit
the screen was convex for a reason, to allow the beam to hit the screen perpendicular/at a consistent angle, with a flat display, the beam hits the screen at a shallower angle the further from the centre you get, blurring the image
>>

Have you ever used an IPS monitor for more than a couple seconds? SSDs are absolutely a meme unless you want them for their lack of moving parts in things like laptops, but IPS monitors are not a meme. They look so much better it's not even funny. I recently went from 2x ASUS vh222h monitors to 2x HP ZR24w monitors and everything looks ridiculously better. The latency of typical LCD screen over a CRT one is usually 20-100x higher.
CRTs have no native resolution, so every resolution can be nice and sharp. They also have nicer colours than a regular TN panel.
And some people just don't feel like switching i guess.

Are you talking input lag or black to white latency?
>>
>>58562289
Clearly neither as no monitor does 2ms.

>Everyone bangs on about IPS being better than TN, but IPS is cooler.
It's not.
>In any case, colour temperature is subjective
It's not if you care about color reproduction at all.

Outside speedrun autists CRTs are obsolete no matter what /g/ says. Sure you could make CRT that beats any LCD on the market but if I wanted CRT of the same size, resolution and features as the current top of the line LCD monitors it would weigh 100kg and cost 20000 dollars.

That's one shitty plasma. Last Panasonic units produced black level of 0.003-0.004 cd/m^2 while having peak brightness of over 100 cd/m^2. Their final lineup had an ANSI checkerboard contrast ratio of 1:17000 which is rather insane. Rest in paradise plasma technology. I will hold onto my TX-P55VT50B for quite a while still until OLED matures.

keep in mind SED was on display around '05/'06
both LCD's and Plasma's got better, but neither (have) caught up to SED, and if SED didn't die it could have improved as well

CRT is still King but there is one older tech that many people have forgotten. It has some lag, but was really good looking, CRT like.

Samsung's S-PVA. The high end version of their S-PVA looked amazing. Very similar to crt. Only came in 24-27 inches I think but they did make a certain panel for larger televisions. Looks better than any LCD and virtually no backlight bleed or glow. Very fast response time and low lag.
>>
because aside from newer lcds most crts have faster refresh and lower latency
