So I have had this Proxmox server running for a while and woke up this morning to see that there where new updates to Debian. I updated and then all my VM shut down and disappeared from the menu. I rebooted and my grub boot manager only shows 4 options and they are variations of memory tests. I cant boot back into Proxmox.
I have no clue how to fix this any Ideas anons. I really really really don't want to have to reinstall Proxmox and start from scratch.
No idea what you did, but:
1. Restore a back-up.
2. If you didn't back-up do so in the future. For now:
Get a live cd/dvd/usb (Debian, not sure if Proxmox has them), boot your server from that and try to chroot it.
From the chroot you should be able to fix things.

Never mind i just had to set up lvm2 im in the proxmox root folder now what should i do? Look at grub?

Check if the important files are still in /boot :
ls -l /boot

Yeah you have to fix grub. Google Debian fix grub
If nothing else works, backup your vm disks and then do a fresh install. I'm always scared this will happen so I don't update my proxmox server at all.

what did you do when dirty cow became public?

You might want to switch to something like oVirt on CentOS. Enable automatic updates and you won't have to worry for ~10 years.
Its not letting me chroot into the /mnt/pcroot folder i mounted my drive onto. Its giving me a error message of
#chroot /mnt/pcroot
chroot: failed to run command bin/bash: permission denied
I got chroot to work but its still not picking up my boot settings
Commands i have done
update-grub
grub-install
grub-mkconfg
